This star has been going everywhere telling people how much he enjoyed the character of his new film, which is why he accepted to do the film. Now the film is out and has been critically panned, he is disowning the film. Well, to be fair, this blind item came out when the film wasn’t released to the public yet. It seems the actor saw the film and realised how crap it was. Actually when we saw how he went out of his way to praise his contemporary’s trailer, we knew that something was up. He was not confident of his own film and had to bait the fans of this other superstar. That’s how it works, isn’t it? A star will praise another star’s work in the hope that the other fans will support him.
The blind item seems a bit far-fetched by saying that the actor knew this film is going to be crap when he was shooting for it. This sounds like something he would say, but it also sounds like something that could have happened about more than 15 years ago when this star didn’t have any power in Bollywood. He has said the exact same thing about a film he did in the late 90’s; the exact same thing! Since then, things have changed for him. Everyone knows how much in control he has and how much power he has when it comes to his film’s decisions. Like all of his films, for this one too, he worked closely with the director and writer. He was present through the songs’ recordings. He was very much there when they edited the film.
The way we see it now is that he didn’t expect the trailer will get such a thanda response. Clearly, he thought he was doing something groundbreaking. Now, there are two ways to look at this: one is, he has never seen ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ and two is, he thought that acting like Uday Chopra in the ‘Dhoom’ series will make his character endearing. Doubt that he has never seen POC, since he pretty much copied Jack Sparrow aka Johnny Depp in the film.
In all the bad reviews that this film has received so far, we can’t help but think of this young actress who fought so hard and even went as far as blackmailing this actor to get her in this film. Now, this film is going to be their ‘RGV Ki Aag’!

Bollywood Blind Item
Lead actor avoids promoting his big ticket ensemble film; worried his fans will hate his character
This big-ticket film had a major promotional plan in order to promote the ensemble movie. However, the lead star backed out of it and the big promotional plan had to be scrapped. This is because the actor was not happy with his role. This realisation took place midway through the shoot when the star realised that his character turned out to be completely different from what was originally told to him. He requested the makers of the movie to change but it was to no avail.
The reason why the actor is insisting that his character in the film is someone who is not known to him is of his concern that his fans and followers would hate him after. This is a worrying fact for the actor.
OSOP Guesses
Film: Thugs of Hindostan
Star: Aamir Khan
I can’t help wonder if Aamir sought any sort of input from Kiran before signing up for and during the shoot for TOH. We already know that she was the one who initially brought Delhi Belly and Ship of Theseus to his notice, so she definitely has a voice. I can’t imagine she would have allowed him to be part of such a huge fiasco. It’s almost like Karma, both for him as well as Fatty. Meanwhile Sana Malhotra who hit out on her own and took her chances has a huge independent hit and steady work under her belt.
This types of movie needs a great directer, with action and period movie experience plus ,editing ! Amir ,from the stories about how involved in his projects, and being a BW superstar, they get involved, beyond their roles! Thus, again these types of movie to work, a strong directer, that is totally committed to his vision, was needed,to make this film work! Too many cooks in the kitchen .. You know!,
Watched Thugs of Hindostan and yes it’s not great. It’s not a good movie though I wouldn’t call it horrible either. It’s doable and has its moments though such moments are few and far between. The reason I feel it’s got such terrible reviews are for two reasons : 1) After Dangal the expectation in terms of quality from an Aamir Khan movie is sky high; and 2) the utter magnanimity of having two of the greatest stalwarts of Bollywood in the same frame makes people want to see and feel something beyond ordinary. At those two levels the movie fails. It’s a very ordinary movie more on the lines of Mangal Pandey, long and predictable. And somehow the pairing of AB and Aamir has not been utilised the way it should have been. Also after a two year three year wait people want to see something amazing in terms of an Aamir Khan. That isn’t happening here. Movie is ok though like I said nothing great. It’s definitely not as bad as Mela though again, it’s nothing great like Dangal. I would rate Thugs of Hindostan above Mangal Pandey and a little below Dhoom3. Dhoom3 worked mainly because of the surprise element of the twins and their back story and the climax. Thugs of Hindostan will get its money back based on the cominc timings between Aamir and Zeeshan Ayub ( a really good actor) and the star presence of Bachchan. It’s sounds funny but AB has the charisma to carry off something like this. Infact I realised AB is the bigger star coz in every frame with Aamir you kind of root for AB though maybe it could be because Aamir’s character is not really endearing. I would rate this movie 2.5 out of 5. Its not that bad as it’s presented to be but again it’s nothing grear either.
I find Aamir unbearable since he started taking himself too seriously.
I liked him in the 90s.
All his new movies have been hits but I haven’t personally been able to enjoy any of them, yes including 3 idiots and dangal and what have you.
I can’t seem to see past Aamir in all his roles. He puts in a lot of effort to look natural but doesn’t really pull it off.
Yes yes yes! This exactly! I think it started in the nineties after SRK had that flop phase after Dark with films like Chaahat and Anjaam and people started to complain about his over the top acting. And at that time, Aamir was made out to be the antithesis of SRK and called the controlled actor. It was from then on that Aamir lost what spontaneity he had and started acting like he was the by all be all of great acting. I think rangeela was the last film of Aamir Khan that I enjoyed
@Melvin – not even Dil Chahta Hai?
@monalisa – absolutely! 🙂
Tbh I mostly find Aamir a ham – watched PK the other day on plane and couldn’t believe how bad he was. Sure Dangal was brilliant. Ah well
Ranveer would have hammed the hell out of it. He needs a good director like Bhansali to calm him down, else he goes the Gunday/Kill Dil way. Remember that awful movie Rohit Shetty made for a noodles ad?
Aamir just doesn’t have the swag/charisma to pull of a larger than life persona.I didn’t watch Dhoom 3 but TOH bombing the way it did, although not surprising is disapppointing. Why did Aamir work with that godawful director for the second time?
The movie looks like it had absolutely nothing for the ladies to do, Fatty Sana wasted two years on this shit and barely did any press rounds… you know get atleast some publicity out of it.
Even Aamir was hamming in TOH. The reviews are brutal. Every actor hams in masala movies. (Gunday, KilDil are out and out hardcore masala movies.).. Imo Ranveer has got the swag, quirkiness, charm and flamboyancy that Aamir lacks to pull off such a role. After the awesome Dangal, TOH is a total letdown.
Viktor is such a bad director. I don’t know why Adi Chopra gives him big budget movies? D3 worked because it was a franchise…
Wonder how much money TOH would make? Heard it had a record opening of 50 cr, but I feel it would not sustain. WOM and reviews are pretty bad and even before the release there was zero buzz. Who would have thought that the contenders for the worst movie of the year and the movie that under-performed the most would be between a Salman Khan and a Aamir Khan movie.
@Monalisa, don’t announce the winner yet. Wait for the third contender in worst movie/performance 2018..Zero aka SRK.
An all time low for the triad of Khans.
I didn’t say he didn’t. Aamir was just as annoying as he was in Mela. I just don’t think Ranveer is a better fit because he has a tendency to go overboard like in Gunday, Befikre etc.
Everybody hams is not a good enough excuse cuz Ranveer himself hammed in Padmavati and pulled it off as Khilji. but like i said, that was under Bhansali. Vijay acharya like we all know is no better than Sajid Khan, except that he somehow managed Aamir Khan to do two of his movies.
Aamir usually gives good performances irrespective of the director. He has a good sense of things usually.
@sangi And here is a fun fact; JHMS was last year’s winner for the worst movie of the year as well as the movie that underperformed the most. Lets see if SRK can avoid it this year.
@newgirl Agree to disagree with you this time.
Tbh, I never got this concept of 150-200 crores budget when the movie doesn’t even look like so much money has gone into it. This is not only for TOH but many superstar movies of recent past. I doubt if it’s just one of the many tricks of the trade to turn kala money safed.
Are we even surprised TOH tanked? Lol, it was crystal clear since the first trailer dropped that only a miracle can save this movie. One glimpse of Amir and even a kid would say it was a clumsy copy of Jack Sparrow. Both heroines are there as eye candies and nothing else.
It’s so disappointing that such a huge banner, big budget, big stars and all they could do was to copy a verrryy famous Hollywood character.
Desi Sparrow didn’t fly after all.
One of the critics likened the appearance of Aamir in the movie to a leprechaun!!
ROFL.
Vijay Krishna Acharya is a terrible terrible director from what I could make of his previous two movies Tashan and Dhoom3. No offence to Aamir Khan but I seriously wondered how Dhoom3 became such a big g hit when the screenplay was so flimsy and the story was so predictable and stretched. But atleast there Aamir Khan’s performance was commendable and his two characters rose above the script. But in TOH, critics are panning his rendition of Firangi Malla as a huge letdown. If this is indeed the case, then I guess TOH must be as terrible as Mela. Because usually even if the movie isn’t good Aamir Khan’s performance is always appreciated. Anyways will be watching it today so will know for sure because sometimes critics pan a movies and performances which appeal to a niche audience and the movie finds its market. Like I enjoyed watching Veere di Wedding because it was so funny in parts and I also really liked Suicide Squad, though both movies were critically massacred. So you never know til you see it for yourself.
seems more like passing th bucket of responsibility on who is responsible;e for the film being bad
someone posted on twitter about the real thugee concept its far more interesting thn this .Someone even sent out fake news how poc was inspired by krishna which is silly as any poc fan will tell you johnny depp has stated himself that it was inspired by Keith Richards who in poc plays jack’s father and pepe le pew
@admin rofl love your use of jack’s gif.
I always love aamir movies and his choices of movies. But this one is a big let down (as per reviews) . The stoic silence by the cast and yrf was fishy from the beginning. Less promotions is a good idea but no promotions at all was strange . Posters were copied and trailer Songs didn’t create any buzz . With the budget of rs 300 crs and legends like Big B and Aamir they would have made a master piece. Nevertheless, it will make crs at the box office due to diwali , aamir stardom and the hike in ticket prices.
The problem is it will perhaps make money for yash raj,but it needs 600 crores to break even.the distributors will loose a lot of money and yash raj doesn’t really refund distributors.the movie looks like it will wrap under 200-250 crores which is not enough
Actually this movie was offered to hrithik first by aditya. Hrithik had asked the role of the female characters to be developed further because he knew no actress will pick such small insignificant role. But Victor happened to show the same script(un-modified version) to Aamir and Aamir liked it instantly and that’s when they dropped hrithik without informing him and announced project with Aamir as the lead. Aditya was overwhelmed when a bigger star than hrithik ie Aamir agreed and never changed/improved the script. That’s a different story that Aamir got fatty’s role increased and Kat also got 1 scene and 1 song more than promised. Fatty accepted the role because of Aamir and Kat was at her career low and hence she accepted her role.
Victor’s previous works were bad and it was bad idea to entrust a 300 crore movie with a Khan and a Bachchan to him. Hope aditya learnt a lesson from this and gave importance to script instead of big names. Nowadays yrf only creates crap. The steady flops are the proof.
Hrithik must be happy now that he avoided a flop.
Thank god Hrithik was dropped. Imagine adding this debacle to his list after Mohenjadaro which was also insane. Never thought a winning team of Jodha Akbar would make such a terrible movie. This must be the first terrible movie for Aamir in a long time along the lines of Mela. Dhoom 3 was not good either but atleast Aamir was good in it and the movie had enough action scenes for it to be watchable. I think after Dangal the expectations from Aamir was sky high. I cringed when i saw the trailer of TOH. He had hammed his way through. I feel Ranveer is quirky enough to pull this role of Firangi well. He has enough madness to make it believable. Anyone else would look bad in it.
