In every industry, you are most likely to find that men are paid more than women are. Sometimes, it may sound fair as clearly men have more strength than women (well, most men do), but sometimes it seems unfair. Today, we will share with you the prices that each actor in the Hindi Film Industry charge for whatever they do, including public appearances, ribbon-cutting, presence at wedding, dancing at wedding, endorsements, stage shows, hosting stage shows, hosting TV shows, judging reality TV shows, dancing/performing at events, guest appearances, product launches, movie charges as well as profits gained from films. We have an approximation of what Bollywood stars usually charge for these things, but there’s no fixed price, at times the prices are changed – sometimes increased or other times decreased.
What Kareena, Katrina, Priyanka, Anushka, Shah Rukh, Aamir & Salman Charge
For any normal person, it’s shocking to see how much these Bollywood stars make. And when you churned out your hard earned money to watch any of their films, you kind of feel cheated when these films turn out to be not worth your time or money. No wonder at times, the critics and even people ask stars for their money back. Sometimes, I wish it could happen. But it’s almost like you buy a cake and eat it, so there’s no way you are getting your money back even if the cake wasn’t good enough for you.
Salman Khan
23-27cr – Per Film
1.5cr – Per Endorsement
Salman Khan is rumoured to charge about Rs 23-27 crore for a film. I doubt he ears this much as his previous films were produced by his own family. Over the last two years, his brothers Sohail and Arbaaz and his sister Alvira have all produced films starring Salman Khan. Obviously, these films worked big time at the box office so the family is happy for now. Salman doesn’t really do that many endorsements. It’s not because he doesn’t want to, but it’s because brand endorsements don’t really want him. It’s mostly because of his problems with the law. But still, the man makes a lot by dancing on stage at every given opportunity. He literally performs at this award show every year!
Akshay Kumar
Akshay Kumar apparently charges really a lot for his films. At times, it’s because of his price that his film flops. Reportedly, he charges about Rs 18-20 crore for every film. He still charges a high price, even though his last few films have failed at the box office. ‘Housefull 2’ is his first hit in some time now, can’t remember his last hit. Let’s see: his flop films include ‘Tees Maar Khan’, ‘Patiala House’, ‘Thank You’… Basically aside from ‘Housefull’ and ‘Housefull 2’, from ‘Chandni Chowk to China’ all of Akshay Kumar’s films have flopped at the box office.
Shah Rukh Khan
20-25cr – Per Film
2-3cr – Endorsement fee
Shah Rukh Khan likes to do favours for his friends in the industry. Most likely, he charges lesser than his normal price for his friends, including Karan Johar and Yash Chopra. It was reported that Shah Rukh Khan didn’t take any money from Farhan Akhtar for ‘Don 2’, so Farhan graciously added Shah Rukh Khan’s name to the list of producers of ‘Don 2’. I think this is because Shah Rukh was thankful that Farhan chose to continue ‘Don’ with him, instead of working with new actors. It was rumoured that Shah Rukh wasn’t too happy that his friends Karan Johar, Farah Khan and Aditya Chopra are working with new actors instead of him. So far, Shah Rukh Khan earns more money in endorsements that in films. He is like in a dozen of ads, ranging from just about anything! Shah Rukh thinks it’s OK to over-charge in endorsements, but not for films.
Aamir Khan
40cr – Per Movie
4cr – Endorsement Per Day
Aamir Khan has always liked to do things differently for himself and as far as his price is concerned, it is no different. He charges a price for his films and he also takes his share of the profits. No wonder, he doesn’t need to work every year! That said, Aamir won’t take a penny if his film flops at the box office. Speaking on this, Aamir says, “That way, I am not burdening the film’s budget with my cost, and I am also ready to put my neck on the line.” He added, “By not taking anything upfront and only charging a fee for acting if the film makes a profit, I am openly stating that if the audience doesn’t like my film, I don’t deserve a penny.” Aamir Khan charges the most for advertisements. He is probably the only big star who does very little ads. That’s probably because he gets enough money from one advertisement!
Irrfan Khan
Irrfan Khan is a really good actor. He is one actor, who truly gets into the character without creating a big hype about it. But still, the man only charges Rs 1.5 crore per film.
Paresh Rawal
Paresh Rawal makes any co-star of his look good in a film. Be it, Akshay Kumar or Sunil Shetty, Paresh is one actor whose comic timing never disappoints. He charges a little bit more than most supporting actors do, a pricing fee of Rs 75-80 lakh.
Bollywood Actresses
Kareena Kapoor
3-4cr – Per Film
1-1.25cr – Endorsement Fee
Kareena Kapoor was fuming in an interview where she spoke about the hit films she worked in last year. She claims that the male stars worked away wit hall the accolades and profits and she was left with only a ‘Chamak Challo’! With ‘Heroine’, Kareena has become the highest paid actress in the Hindi film Industry by charging a small whopping R4 crore.
Katrina Kaif
3-4cr – Per Film
1-1.25cr – Endorsement Fee
Katrina Kaif charges more for her films than Vidya Balan. This is because she is a lucky lady, the luckiest there is in Bollywood. With no such acting skills to boast of, Katrina has had many hits at the box office – more than her contemporaries. Taking luck aside, it seems that the Indian audience really like her as they will watch her films no matter what. She used to take the support of superstars at one time, but now it’s the superstars that need her. She gets really good projects, some films that I think would have suited other actresses. But the bottom line is, producers feel secure when she is in their projects as she’s one lucky lady!
Vidya Balan
2.5-3cr – Per Film
0.25-0.5cr – Endorsement Fee
Vidya Balan, currently the most deserving number one actress, has been giving hits after hits and getting awards after awards. But you don’t see her that much in the news as much as you see Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor. You know what this means, don’t you? It could mean that she doesn’t have a strong publicist or she is just interested in displaying her acting skills. If she continues like this, she will end up being the best actress that the Hindi Film Industry will ever have of this current generation. Vidya charging this much means that her films stand a good chance at becoming hits.
Priyanka Chopra
2-3 cr – Per Film
0.65-0.75 cr – Endorsement Fee
Priyanka Chopra is one of the top actresses today. When it comes to the number one actress today, it’s a tie between Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. The difference between them is that PC tries to do films that showcase her acting skills more than Kareena. Kareena prefers to be in films with superstars. In a way, she’s smart but she’s only playing second fiddle in these films. More good things are coming her way, including a music album launch soon.
Deepika Padukone
1-2.5 cr – Per Film
0.5-0.75 cr – Endorsement Fee
Deepika Padukone hasn’t had much luck at the box office. She still has a long way to go before reaching the top actress slot. She has time on her side, so sooner or later things will get better for her. Still, she commands a high price.
Anushka Sharma
1-1.5 cr – Per Film
0.25-0.4 cr – Endorsement Fee
Anushka Sharma charges as much as Deepika Padukone. Even though Deepika Padukone has been in this industry longer than Anushka Sharma, she has more flops than Anushka Sharma. Anushka, on the other hand, is a really good actress and has many more hits at the box office in a short time. Personally, I do believe that she’s another Vidya Balan in the making.
