These awards are a bit confusing to begin with. There are already so many award ceremonies in India that honour celebrities and actors. NDTV is a TV channel in India and every year, the channel’s reporters get to decide who will win among the actors. This year, they chose Kareena Kapoor and Sridevi. Sridevi, I understand, made her comeback in ‘English Vinglish’ and the film was greatly appreciated by both the audience and critics. Kareena, on the other hand, I don’t really know why they are giving her the award. Maybe because she finally got married last year and is still going strong in the film industry. She has also become smart in her interviews, she’s no longer the actress, who blurts out what she wants. On picking up her award, Kareena offered her condolences to the family of the Delhi gangrape victim and she said that she hopes that Indian women get the justice they deserve. The people over at NDTV praised Sridevi by saying that she’s proof that talent can only get better with age and that actresses of substance to take center-stage in Bollywood. She was given the ‘Entertainer of the Year’ award by BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, who was very happy as she’s a huge Sridevi fan.
