We have had a reader asked something about Aditi Rao Hydari and as promised, we are posting here several snippets of her interview with TOI. It’s sad that Aditi didn’t quite make it big in Bollywood. The films that had her in the lead didn’t quite work at the box office, barring ‘Murder 3’. She was also in ‘Khoobsurat’ acting as the pretty fiancee of the handsome Fawad Khan. It’s an interesting interview as Aditi talks about quite a few interesting things in her life. She speaks about her family. Aditi also mentioned how she is the first cousin of Aamir Khan’s wife Kiran Rao.
Aditi Rao Hydari Interview
Aditi Rao Hydari on her mother
My mom is a thumri dadra singer and so all through my childhood, I always woke up to the sounds of the tanpura. My mother is even more pretty than I am, gentle and dignified, but has a quiet strength which I admire. She is extremely liberal, but I never misused the freedom as I never wanted to trouble her.
Aditi on her divorced parents fighting for her
My father was just angry at the fact that my mother had the courage to leave and look after me and succeed. He loved me, but felt that he needed to prove something. In reality, my mother had never told me anything about my father and in fact, had encouraged me to meet him.
Aditi on keeping the names of both her mom and dad
I wanted to keep both, as my mom has brought me up, but my father is also a part of me. Hydari is a rare name so I kept both Rao and Hydari.
Aditi on entering Films
I was offered a role in a dance-based Tamil film after one of my professional performances in Chennai as I resembled Shobhana and the role required me to play her. Saroj Khan choreographed it and it won a national award.
Aditi on entering Bollywood
Saroj Khan told me, ‘There is no one like you. You should come to Mumbai’. I then did a Malayalam film after which I got a small role in Delhi-6. I then did a parallel lead in Sudhir Mishra’s Yeh Saali Zindagi after which London Paris New York happened and Murder 3.
Aditi on marrying Satyadeep Mishra
Yes, I got married at 21 to Satyadeep, who was a civil servant and lawyer and gave it up to become an actor. I met him when I was 17 and that was my only serious relationship. It broke my heart when we separated, but only the name of the relationship collapsed as we are friends and are still close.
Aditi on being related to Kiran Rao
Even though Kiran is much older than me, whenever we meet, she treats me like a close sibling. I admire her for her amazing mind and spunkiness.
