Aditi Rao Hydari on working with Mani Ratnam, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, learning Tamil and reacting to rumours

Last year, we did a topic on Aditi Rao Hydari and for some reason, that topic received a lot of views till today. So, we decided to follow it up with another article on her. Maybe there isn’t that many information about her. Two men she was rumoured to be with are with someone else. So we don’t know whether these gossips were untrue or they were together at one point. Aditi has failed to make a mark as a leading actress, but as a second lead or part of the supporting cast, she has done well. She will soon be seen in ‘Padmavati’, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film. She is also acting in a Tamil film by Mani Ratnam titled ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’. Mani and Sanjay are two of the best directors in the country. While Sanjay has managed to bounce back from his flops with ‘Ram-Leela’, Mani bounced back with ‘OK Kanmani’. In this interview with Mumbai Mirror, Aditi talks about her love and respect for both directors. It’s hard to believe she has been in the film industry for 10 years. Here she is talking about all that.

    Aditi Rao Hydari Interview

Aditi on learning Tamil for Mani’s film

I tried to grasp the nuances of the language so I could effortlessly internalise Mani sir’s instructions. I didn’t want language to be a barrier even on that level. It was challenging and now that I’m back in Mumbai and no longer hearing the language being spoken constantly, I’m afraid I might forget it. Mani sir’s cinema transcends language. If he had asked me to do the film in German, I would have done it because of the kind of director he is.

Aditi on working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who she calls a taskmaster

Being a taskmaster is essential to push yourself. Cinema is director’s medium, and when a director challenges me, it infuses me with the energy to do better.

Aditi on working with both Mani and SLB

A week after I wrapped up Mani sir’s film, I started shooting for Sanjay (Bhansali) sir’s Padmavati. His attention to detail, be it dance, music or jewellery, is amazing. I’d stand on my head in a snowstorm for them without asking questions.

Aditi on not having problems doing supporting roles

Once I want to do a film, I give it my 100 percent. It’s 2017 and actors need to change their approach. It’s amazing to land an author-backed part, but I also wouldn’t think twice about taking up a multi-starrer with a great director.

Aditi on how rumours affect her

I’m a sensitive girl and do get upset but then I see the humour in these concocted stories and move on. At the end of the day, I’m still a kid. I don’t know if that’s good or bad but that’s the way I am.
