50-mins to waste: Rajeev Masand Roundtable with The Newcomers

You know why we made this topic.(?) If you don't, then refer to:

20-mins to waste: Harshvardhan Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor in a conversation

If you do know, then let’s get started. The video below is by Rajeev Masand. He does his roundtable thing every year and this time too, he invited Newcomers. Wished there were more newcomers, but we don’t know whether he tried inviting others or these four newcomers were his only choice. Man, you should see the comments for this video on youtube.

Everyone is so pissed off at Harshvardhan Kapoor. See, this is what happens when you insult an actor that you thought has to recognition in India. Not a single comment, at least the ones we saw, enjoyed Harsh’s presence at this roundtable. We are guessing the reason why Rajeev invited him was because they had an hour conversation before and that was the first time,

Harsh’s intellect/brain was praised. Now everyone says that he’s making Sonam Kapoor look like a genius every time he opens his mouth. When we read that he was going to be on this roundtable, we were ready for him. Seeing how his other interviews went, we knew the way this time. But, the ones that surprised us the most at this roundtable were Fatima Sheik and Jim Sarbh.

Most likely because Fatima appears the sweetest and Jim is just the coolest especially with his David Bowie getup. Also, note that only Harsh comes from a star family at this roundtable. Fatima acted in ‘Chachi 420’, but no one really knew her until ‘Dangal’ anyways. Jim was in ‘Neerja’, the only villain that managed to make an impact and Sobhita Dhulipala was in ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’.

Dissection of the Roundtable with Newcomers

At the beginning of the interview, we were like:

    • Like the other video in the link above, it seems that Harsh really doesn’t enjoy listening to other talking. He was listening, but not as engrossed in the conversation as the others were.

    • Harsh likes to talk about his experiences a lot. Like A LOT. It seems he forgot he was in the company of others and seemed to enjoy telling his stories as if he was telling them at home.

    • The three most favourite words of Harshvardhan Kapoor are MIRZYA and BHAVESH JOSHI. He said those words more times that we could count. Actually, we got tired of counting after a while. We too have decided that we are going to use Bhavesh Joshi as many times in a conversation as Harsh. He really Bhavesh Joshi us. See, we did it right here!

    • As we mentioned in the other dissection video, Harsh takes himself way too seriously. Watching this interview, you might think this dude has done over 50 films and won tons of awards. But, he just did Mirzya and Bhavesh Joshi.

    • What we noticed, he keeps glancing to the girl next to him on his right, but she was having none of his glances (she wasn’t even responding, in case you didn’t get what we were saying). He enjoyed Jim’s conversations, mainly because Jim was talking about ‘Neerja’, Sonam Kapoor’s film.
    • Fatima has definitely not let the humongous success of ‘Dangal’ go to her head. You can see she’s normal and totally engrossed in the conversation. She was also very responsive to Jim Sarbh. Probably like most people watching this roundtable, Fatima too was thinking Jim is too cool and she gets to be there live in the moment with him. In this video, she’s totally into Jim. Fatima is also the only one, who’s a film old.

    • Jim is very laidback and takes his acting job seriously. He says he’s very very nervous on the sets. Was very nervous shooting Neerja, especially his long introduction scene. He’s now working on Padmavati with Ranveer Singh and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

    • Sobhita is not that out there. She didn’t put in her thoughts that much. Probably, she’s much more reserved. She spoke only when spoken to. Also, she wants to write more than act. She will be soon seen in Chef, co-starring Saif Ali Khan.

    • We have a feeling no one watched Mirzya because no one bothered asking him anything. If they did watch Mirzya, they didn’t ask probably because they know he will go on and on about it. Having him add on to the answers of others was enough, which is why none of them bothered him with any questions.

    • 23 minutes in, Harsh says it’s hard for him to talk about others. That, we know!

    • Nepotism is a very touchy topic. Jim points out that Harsh is the only one at this roundtable, who was cast as the lead in a movie. The rest of them all had supporting roles. Harsh begs to differ by saying he actually did auditioned for a couple of films. Then, he goes on to list the number of Hollywood films he auditioned for! Basically, he’s trying to say that Hollywood rejected him, which is why he has to work in Bollywood. We wished we knew this earlier, because we have been saying he has to go to Hollywood since he brings their movies, actors and directors up in every interview he’s had. Turned out, he was shown the door that’s why he’s here. He also auditioned for Bhavesh Joshi in 2012 which was almost 5 years ago. But, weren’t they making the film with Imran Khan back then? Imran was even building up to play this role. Then came the bombshell of all, Harsh claims that he auditioned for ‘Life of Pi’ and they rejected him on the basis that he was too attractive! Doesn’t he hear himself when he talks? This means, the guy that got the part (Suraj Sharma) is not good-looking. We won’t use the other word, but that’s what Harsh meant. By the way, Suraj went on to act in the famous American TV show, ‘Homeland’. He will also be seen next to Anushka Sharma in her home production, ‘Phillauri’. Jim gives no sh!t. He goes back to Harsh by saying that he got to auditioned for lead roles whereas they had to start at the bottom. Harsh says audition is auditioning. Jim then says that Harsh gets a card to audition for lead roles. Harsh probably feels sideline, as he just keeps quiet and drinks a bit of water. Then, he says there are two sides of every coin and then goes on to complain about everything that he does or says is scrutinised. That’s a sign that he should watch what he does or say. He’s talking like if he’s been scrutinised like Ranbir Kapoor has.

    • Harsh is mad that we all didn’t get why he tweeted about not winning the Filmfare Award for best debut. He said he did so in a dignified way and the media twisted everything. From our point of view, that was not dignified. Tweeting what he did was far from dignified. He should have gone up to the organisers and ask them directly. He forgot the same night his sister won and yet, he was questioning how these awards work. It’s nice how he references foreign award shows as well, not just movies.

    • Again, Jim points out he doesn’t care sh!t. Fatima agrees that gossips are always interesting and Harsh starts getting upset again and starts going on about the whole Filmfare thing again. Jim asked Rajeev what he thought of it, Rajeev gave his answer and Harsh doesn’t care less. Harsh says he just wants to be himself, it’s what people want him to be. People, like who?

    • Jim ends that part of the conversation by saying that Diljit was good in the film! Our point again when we say no one in this group has seem Mirzya.

    • Harsh pats himself on the back by literally praising something he said to journalists. Like what?

    • On stardom, the four newbies talk about their experience of having people walk up to them and ask for autographs and hugs. Fatima says more people want hugs more than autographs. Harsh says only young girls like him after Mirzya. He’s hoping after Bhavesh Joshi more people will Mirzya him. See, we did it again! Sobhita says she was surprised she met someone, who watched her film. She says the guy asked for an autograph, then she told him she should be the one taking a picture with him since he watched her film.

    • 40 minutes in and Fatima asks Sobhita and Jim if the characters they play stay with them or how do they get rid of it. Harsh jumps in to answer and says he will never get rid of the characters he played in Mirzya. You can see Sobhita smiling when Harsh was answering. Most likely, because she knows that this dude is never going to shut up about Mirzya! But more so, because the question that Fatima asked was directed at her. She and Jim never got to answer that question because Rajeev encouraged Harsh with another question about Bhavesh Joshi.

    • Speaking of Bhavesh Joshi, Harsh is the only one in this group still acting as the lead in his second film; a big film, he says.

    • Fatima says she can’t wait to start working on her next film, Jim says it will happen soon.

    • Harsh wants to create his own path/journey. Fatima wants a career like Aamir Khan’s. Jim likes Joaquin Phoenix because he’s good in non-stakes scenes. Then, Harsh starts again on how Joaquin is as an actor and he talks about director. Sobhita says she has only watched 20 films in her life, out of which 8 are Harry Potter films.

    • On the roles from films that they are inspired to do. Rajeev had to rephrase the question by saying films from Bollywood. Jim says he wanted to be in Raman Raghav 2.0 and goes on to add that Amruta Subhash is such an amazing actress. He wants to do all of Vicky Kaushal’s roles since he gets so many good roles. Fatima wanted to do Jim’s role in Neerja. Harsh gives his answer after mentioning M and BJ again. He says he has a sense of humour and everyone laughs at him, especially Sobhita! He wanted to do Imran Khan’s role in Delhi Belly. Sobhita wants to do anything that is related to Geeta Dutt, she’s a big fan. Wonder why she didn’t mention earlier when she said she watched only 20 films and some of them might have been Geeta Dutt’s film.

What’s the deal with putting these nice-looking things on the table when no one bothers to eat them? Sorry, we just were wondering while watching the video.
