DYK: Vivek Oberoi is involved in real estate and NGO programs to help others

Did you know what Vivek Oberoi has been doing all this while? The last time we saw him onscreen was in ‘Krrish 3’ and we have been wondering when he’s going to sign another big budget soon. Turns out, he has been doing something even better: helping people through his companies. Let’s face it, Vivek’s career has never been the same since he decided to make that press conference and told the whole world how Salman Khan is a mentally unstable guy. He did what no one else had the guts to do. And yet, people made fun of him subsequently for years to come. He didn’t get that many film offers that were good. Though Farah Khan once said that Salman didn’t tell his friends not to cast Vivek, it is likely they did not do it just not to piss off Salman.

DYK: Vivek Oberoi is involved in real estate and NGO programs to help others

Everyone talks about how big-hearted Salman Khan is, but no one has ever applauded the courage of Vivek, who went to Chennai to help tsunami victims a day after it happened. We remember there was a picture in the local paper showing Vivek walking deep in water distributing supplies to those affected. That page’s title was “The Real Bollywood Hero”. True enough! While most actors donated a couple of lakhs, Vivek went over and with his own money reached out to the victims. It takes guts and courage to do that. On his part, he never highlighted the many good things that he does for people. It’s why we had no idea what he has been doing all these years. But as it turns out in this interview below, Vivek talks about all the things that he has been doing. He has been involved in real estate that offers low-income families with the type of housing they can afford. He has helped thousands of cancer kids with treatment and after support. Not to forget, the thousands of girls that he took out of dire situations and gave them a chance to have a proper education in life. His wife, Priyanka Alva, also works for an NGO organisation.

He also has the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which explains what he was doing at the PM’s swearing-in ceremony. Twitter even made fun of him for that. Speaking of India’s PM, Vivek said he was inspired to start all of this because of the Prime Minister. We won’t say more, just hear Vivek tell you about all of this in the video below.

It’s nice that he hasn’t wasted time to sit around and whine how successful Salman is getting. He went on with his life by doing his part, which is how everyone should be. Just do your part in helping the less fortunate and life will be kind to you. We are glad we were such big fans since the beginning of his career! Can’t believe he’s 40 already!

    In The Spotlight: Vivek Oberoi

    1. “those guys from the South, who slap their girlfriends like if it’s nothing or a caring gesture.”…or from the North, or East, or West, no?

    2. Just looked for that video. YouTube has every episode except Vivek’s online! I wonder why!?

But if anyone else can recall. It showed pictures of Vivek while he lived in the US, with long hair. The context of the slap, was that his girlfriend and he were sitting in a cafeteria when his friend came by. His girlfriend’s face showed distaste for his friend so he claimed to slap her for her “disrespect”. That friend appeared on the episode too. Not even kidding about it! His creep image has stuck in my memory since then.

      (Damn, I have good memory!)

      1. Why was he invited? Don’t they invite those, who have been around a long time? When you do find that video, let us know. Can’t wait to see it.

      2. He sounds like those guys from the South, who slap their girlfriends like if it’s nothing or a caring gesture. And the girls take it too like if it’s what they deserved.

    3. Again, I call BS on it. Of course they have been publicizing it. Just google it. You are telling me that he’s all about women’s empowerment? This jerk?
I remember him on ‘Jeena isi ka naam Hai’ in the late 90s. He bragged, actually bragged about slapping his ex-girlfriend in college. Name one actress he’s acted with that has a good opinion of him?
Both Salman and Vivek are similar characters. The latter is a bit of a chupa Rustom, that’s all.

      1. What? No way. Vivek bragged about slapping a woman? Please share the video, we have to see this. We are surprised since we watched most of his interviews, he has been nothing but polite.

    4. Bull$hit!! Vivek’s wife is the daughter of the late Bengalore politician Jeevaraj Alva. He and his wife are into “philanthropy” because they are trying to mend broken bridges with the public. Vivek even canvassed for his MIL last elections. It’s really over the top when you say he has the support of Modi. The Jeevaraj connection is the only reason he got to be at the inauguration and even that was 3 years ago. Salman is a first rate gangster but that doesn’t make Vivek a great-he’s a first rate twat too.

FYI-Low cost housing is a very lucrative business is India. Even the Tatas are getting into it. Almost all National and State budgets have huge amounts of money earmarked for it.

      1. You mean to say that Vivek is doing all this charity to make the public like him? Then, why did he keep it so quiet? We don’t believe it because we have kept track of what he has been doing. Even before he got married, Vivek and his family were heavily involved in helping others. They never publicized it. Overall, you need to have money if you want to help a lot of people. He’s doing just that. Did you hear about the acid-attack victim that Vivek offered a job to? And a place to stay as well? Unlike Salman, who had Reshma Shetty start up this whole Being Human thing, just to help make his case when his time in court comes. It’s exactly what they did and because of that Salman didn’t have to go to jail. But, do people know that only about 10/20% of the profits actually go to charity?

    5. He was a good damn actor. It’s very bad how salman managed to avoid people from casting him. He is still one of the best actors back then with his versatile films. I am glad he is someone better and away from all these chaos in the industry. Kudos and good job!
