‘Aashiqui’ was such a huge thing when it was released. It was a trendsetter that a film can just work on good music. When it was released, people were mesmerised by it. It was something else then and today, the new-age audience might not understand why ‘Aashiqui’ had such a huge impact because they have their own ‘Aashiqui 2’. The old film might look outdated or senseless to today’s audience. In fact, when the film plays on TV today, there will always be some kid, who will want to change the channel. It makes you wonder how does the film’s good music annoys today’s kids. We don’t mean “annoy” in totality, but they do find it outdated. As an audience that got to watch both versions, we have to say that both films had good music. But there was an innocence in the first film, which wasn’t there in the second film. We learnt many years ago that the first film was based on Mahesh Bhatt’s own personal love story. How he met his first wife and how his dad had another family. ‘Zakhm’ was also based on his childhood and he had his daughter, Pooja Bhatt, play his mother in that film. ‘Aashiqui’ launched the careers of both Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal. Rahul Roy was THE thing back then! The same thing happened with ‘Aashiqui 2’, as it launched the careers of Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor. Anu Agarwal disappeared for a while and now, she does appear when needed. Like at the anniversary of Vishesh Films, she came whereas Rahul Roy was not there. A lot of things happened to her during her disappearance from Bollywood. It’s why she looks different as well. Maybe one day, we will dive into that. For now, check out the old and new stars of the ‘Aashiqui’ movie series.

When Anu Agarwal disappeared from films
Anu looks terrible now, doesn’t she? I know she had that accident and stuff, not quite sure about why she looks like this now.
I saw Aashiqui on TV the other day, and it is nearly unwatchable. Terrible, contrived dialogs and the acting was even more forgettable.
Sometimes I wonder if an actress with Anu’s looks hadn’t come through, would there have been place for Malaika and Bipasha?
