Kangana Ranaut picked the wrong person to steal from

Every media outlet has been reporting about this story, which made it difficult for us to decide the appropriate title for this post. Either way, it doesn’t change the fact that something wrong has happened and that someone has been wronged. Please go HERE for Chapter 2.

Kangana Ranaut picked the wrong person to steal from

What is wrong with Kangana Ranaut? Being a 3-time National Award winner is not enough for her? Getting all these accolades and compliments from people weren’t enough for her? Why is she so greedy? It’s ironic, considering how Kangu has complained that the industry people and star kids were not kind to her. So, for her to just take away someone’s hard work and claim it as her own is just distasteful to begin with. To be fair, it’s not the first time she has done this. She has been pissing off the people she worked with for a while now. After ‘Tanu Weds Manu 2’, the director vowed to never work with her again. For ‘Queen’, Kangana was super happy at the response she got for ‘writing several of her dialogues’ and maybe that’s why she got greedy. But this time, she picked the wrong person. She may have gotten the director of ‘Simran’ to give her this credit, she forgot to talk to the writer first. The poster and teaser were released earlier this week and everyone has been praising it endlessly. All was good until Apurva Asrani, the credited writer, shared this post on his Facebook account:

I have always supported Kangana in her fight against the system. Being a self-made person myself, and having experienced being an outsider at some point, I applaud her courage and her determination to fight a good fight.

I know there seems to be a discrepancy regarding credits. Many of you have outraged against her ‘additional dialogue & story’ credit appearing before mine on the poster, and I am thankful to you for your support.

While it is demeaning for any writers name to be pushed after an additional writing credit, I want to bring to your attention that it’s not the ‘credits’ that irk me so much. There is something bigger that I notice, something that I cannot make sense of.

Ms Ranaut has been claiming in several interviews that Hansal Mehta, the director of Simran, approached her with just a one line screenplay of the film. She says that they story was dark & gritty thriller at that stage and that she herself developed it into a light, fun film.

This completely discredits me and my efforts, and I have to call out this lie at the cost of so many of her fans turning against me. Those that know me will know that I have always strived for the truth, and that is more important to me than a hit film.

Hansal sent me a news article of a woman in the US who crossed the line of the law. I loved it and thought it would make a great film. But I didn’t want to do a serious film after Aligarh. As gratifying as the experience of making Aligarh was, it churned my insides out and left me emotionally drained. I saw ‘Simran’ as an opportunity to have some fun. This was 2 years ago!

I signed a contract with Hansal’s company Karma Features, developed the idea into an original story and wrote a one-line screenplay. Hansal loved it, and took me to meet Kangana. She heard the narration and jumped at it. She told us she would do it!

Jubilant to work with my favourite actress, I began research and development. I went to the US and studied the subject, I met lots of people who added value to the idea. I then returned and began writing.

I wrote 9 drafts of the script. With each draft I went deeper into the character, I gave her an identity, motives and colour. Both Kangana and Hansal gave me valuable inputs. I incorporated some, rejected some. They were always happy with the outcome. I have proof of this. Besides, writers write for the director and his/her approval is the final word for us.

At no point (during 9 drafts and 1 & a half year!!) was there any talk or communication that Kangana didn’t like the tone or direction of the script. Infact she used to jump with glee when I finished my narrations.

When they went to shoot the film, I heard stories about things transpiring on set. I would not like to go into that now. But I waited excitedly for them to return with the material and when it came earlier this year, I dived into editing it.

I was thrilled to see that it was exactly the story and screenplay that I had registered at the Film Writer’s Association. I noticed that Kangana had improvised many dialogues, and I thought those improvs were excellent; in keeping with the lines/thoughts I had written.

At no stage did I see this new narrative of theirs coming. It was only the day after I finished the first cut of the film that Hansal called me to meet. He informed me nervously that Kangana is turning director and therefore has demanded a co writer credit.

I naturally had a shit fit and feeling shocked and betrayed, I refused to give in. For 2 months, he and his co producer Shailesh tried to arm twist me into giving her a co writer credit. The details of which I will reserve for the future.

I finally gave into an additional writing credit, but only because they claimed their film would be stuck if I didn’t do so. But I refused to give her a co writer credit, and we signed a letter where they promised me the same.

Today not only do I see her credit before mine on the poster ( which I had decided not to fight), but I also saw Kangana on her ‘Facebook Live’ event yesterday claiming that she had written the film (with Hansal) from a one-line he gave her. She had already discredited my one line in her Mid Day Interview in April, saying it was a dark & gritty thriller till she wrote a new film.

I have tried to be dignified about this for so long, but I am at a loss to understand why Kangana would snatch the hard earned work of a writer. I wish she had been graceful about this and acknowledged what I brought to this film.

I also wish that my dear friend Hansal shows some spine and either refutes or endorses my story.

Kangana Ranaut has been given too many free passes for the things she has said and done by the media. She’s an underdog, so her success story has been glorified by herself with the help of the media. But when something is wrong, it’s wrong. It doesn’t matter who she is or what hardships she has gone through, the culprit has to eventually pay. By the way she’s going with her career in Bollywood, Kangu is digging a hole for herself without realising it.

How is it that she’s able to get her way? She slammed Karan Johar for being responsible for the nepotism situation in Bollywood and yet, she gets to arm-twist and bully directors into giving her the credit she doesn’t deserve. Hansal Mehta is a well-known director, so how did he just give in to her? We are asking because Kangu is supposed to be the mountain girl with no connection to Bollywood, so how is she this influential enough to do this? Did she threaten them with her now-famous black magic skills or does she really have someone looking out for her and helping her? Did she blackmail the producer and director?

You know, people have mentioned how she has family members in the government/politics. We don’t know exactly who, but many people have commented how her connection to politics is the reason she won 3 National Awards.

Now that the truth has come out, it will be interesting to see how Kangu replies to all of this. Usually, she takes her time to get her statement ready, like if she’s going to war. She did the same about the HR drama, Rangoon flop blame and KJo drama on nepotism. Let’s just wait and see how she pulls this one off with her writing skills.

Remember how HR fought with crocodiles in ‘Yaadein’ to save Bebolah’s character? He should find that high horse that Kangu is sitting on and shake it until she falls down from it. And we don’t mean any malice by saying this, it’s all for her own good.

By the way, that Apurva guy is so cute! Can’t believe Kangu kick him like that!

    1. Kangana thinks she’s high and mighty. I seriously dislike this girl. Wait until all your movies starts to flop.

    2. Hello Site Owner,

Interested in what your take is after Hansal Mehta and the other writer have come out with statements supporting Kangana. Somehow I feel like Kangana is on a hitlist of sorts for ticking off too many people in the industry – The Sumans, The Roshans and Aditya Pancholi. Don’t you think that it’s suspicious that there’s this big brouhaha over her credits right before the movie releases? The question is who paid whom to malign someones reputation?
They had a whole year to come up with allegations. Besides the man has a signed document agreeing to the credits. Also another person from ‘Shahid’ is claiming the man is bogus. Hansal Mehta is a man of integrity too, and I doubt he would lie.

I agree with everything about Aamir Khan though. The man is lecherous.

    3. I hope you saw this link below. Apurv Asrani has a very chequered past when it comes to being a writer himself. Shahid is the film he claimed to have written himself. Even won a national award for. The producer has said the script will be published online after the film’s release. I hope your writers will do us the honour of comparing script amd film before deciding that Kangana is the offenders here. Thank you.

    4. Copyright your script! Copyright your script! Copyright your script! I cannot stress it enough. And yes Kangana, Aamir and Rahul Bose are all guilty of this.

Biggest reason why I never watched Satyamev Jayate? Almost all the ideas discussed are those that have been espoused by Aamir’s cousin (an environmental and human rights advocate) the director Mansoor Khan. Aamir and Kiran are on record saying they got the idea for the show after staying on Mansoor’s Eco-friendly farm. Mansoor was also the reason why he tried to get PR out the Narmada Bachao Andolan.
The support for offbeat movies and the intolerant India comments came via Kiran.

Our dear Tingu ji is a big on stealing ideas (am sorry, ‘borrowing ideas’) and dumping them when it no longer suits him. Unfortunately the ideas he picks are of humanitarian and environmental nature (things for which people were killed fighting) which makes his opportunism very very creepy. That’s all – sorry about the rant and going off topic.

      1. It’s true how he’s a big hypocrite. He believed his own hype and is carrying this saintly image of his a long way. How would someone who had everything growing up and did not have interests in doing something for his country for many years suddenly woke up and is going at it full speed? He is a crocodile tears ka dukaan, the government should seek his help whenever heavy drought hits the country!

Let’s not forget that aside from stealing other people’s ideas, his movies have had full house booked with no one inside to watch the film. There’s a huge chance he manipulates how much his films have to make and goes out of his way to make sure his movies create news when it comes to the profits.

    5. there’s nothing more disheartening than someone else claiming credit for your hard work. Kangana is turning into a monster. Why take credit when you haven’t done the work? Hope she does the right thing.

    6. kangana just aping amir.he known to be credit stealer she join the list.she should learn lesson before it too late.
