Literally, Adele was crying when she went onstage to pick up her award. We thought that perhaps she was getting too emotional over picking up the award for Album of the Year, which is a big deal for any artist. But then we realised that it’s not her first win either, so as she went on with her speech it was clear that she didn’t want to upset Beyonce’s fans aka the BeyHive. The way she went on stage as soon as her name was announced was like watching her get chosen to represent her district in ‘The Hunger Games’. True enough, the BeyHive was mad that Adele won over Beyoncé in 3 categories, the most important categories at the Grammys.
Adele didn’t have to do that, as she had a good album and should have been happily accepting the award on stage. But, it seems that even she was aware at that moment the cost of her winning over Beyoncé twice. So, Adele in a moment of panic thanked Beyoncé for inspiring her at the end of her speech. She was so scared that she tried to make light of the situation by breaking her Grammy Award into two to give one to Beyoncé. By the way, her gestures truly made the BeyHive happy, but they still claim they will boycott the Grammys and also that the Grammys are not fair to black artists. Even Beyonce’s sister, Solange, thought so.
BeyHive Coming For Adele!
To be honest, Adele is a lot more original than Beyoncé. She must have been nice to say that she’s inspired by Beyoncé when they belong to two different worlds of music. Adele has the ability to write and produce good songs. Unlike Beyoncé, Adele doesn’t rely on publicity alone as she’s not an attention seeker or hungry for attention. Her singles have managed to reach number one without any manipulation. Because people truly like to listen to Adele. This album was the fastest-selling album in iTunes history breaking the record that was previously held by Beyonce’s self-titled album released in 2013.
When she accepted her award for Record of the Year, Adele got emotional. She said the last time she was at the Grammys, she was pregnant but didn’t know it yet. Now 5 years later, after going through so much, she’s back. She didn’t sugarcoat her journey when she wasn’t making the album. She said it’s hard being a mother, but her son is her most prized possession. She gave credit to her team that helped make this album possible.
As you can see it took an army to make me strong and willing again to do it. And I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. And in my pregnancy and becoming a mother I lost a lot of myself and I’ve struggled and I still do struggle being a mum. It’s really hard. But tonight winning this really feels full circle and like a bit of me has come back to myself.
Adele Kanyed Herself
““Kanyed” is when Kanye West went on stage and interrupted Taylor Swift’s speech to say that Beyonce had the best video of all time! He was going to do the same when Beck won Record of the Year at the Grammys some years back.
Here’s the part of her speech when she talks about Beyoncé:
But I can’t possibly accept this award, and I’m very humbled and very grateful and gracious but my life is Beyoncé, and the album to me, the Lemonade album, Beyoncé, was so monumental, and so well thought out. And so beautiful and soul bearing and we all got to see another side of you that you don’t always let us see, and we appreciate that. And all us artists adore you. You are our light. And the way that you make me and my friends feel, the way you make my black friends feel is empowering, and you make them stand up for themselves. And I love you. I always have. And I always will. Grammys, I appreciate it. I adore you and I want you to be my mommy. The artist of my life is Beyoncé, and this album to me, the Lemonade album, was just so monumental.
You have to see Jay Z’s reaction when Adele said she can’t accept the award. Even backstage, Adele was still pressing on that Beyoncé deserved the award as 2016 was her year. To be fair, Hello is a much better song than Formation. At least, the lyrics were better.
DID YOU KNOW:
Adele is the first person ever to sweep all three main Grammys categories twice. She previously won all three for her second studio album, 21, in 2012.
Now, the question that we need to ask: Would Beyoncé have done the same thing if she was the one, who won the award?
