Anurag Kashyap on the Failure of Bombay Velvet and his Upcoming Movies

You know how something is in the past and people wants to remind you about it by talking about it again and again. It’s the same thing with ‘Bombay Velvet’. Yes, it was an epic flop that costed the movie studio a lot of movie, more money than any other movies released in recent time. If only its makers and actors would stop reminding us here and there about how big of a flop ‘Bombay Velvet’ was. If only! Anurag Kashyap was interviewed recently and he had a lot to say about the failure of ‘Bombay Velvet’. It was after all his biggest film, so one can only imagine how much he’s still sad about its failure.

Anurag Kashyap on ‘Bombay Velvet’ failing

People have gone to fund my dream, which was unreasonable to begin with. Just because I have a dream to do something for 10 years does not mean that somebody is obliged to do it. They buy into your idea, they buy into your dream. It was like a Rs 90 crore art film. For me the burden of that money lost is going to be there for a long time.

Anurag on why he will not ask for this much money for a film again
Money is the biggest nightmare. So, I say that the more you minimise the cost of the film, it works. I just did an expensive film which probably is the biggest loss making movie in the history of cinema. The nightmare that I go through no one can understand. So, that is something I don’t want to do ever again. It teaches you a lesson.

Anurag on why he likes to write, direct and produce his films
I like to control my film. I don’t want anyone else to do it.

    Anurag on his upcoming films
I just finished shooting my next film and have also begun writing another. I have decided I will not talk about my films. People will get to know when it releases.
