Blind Item – May 2018 8

The blind item below speaks about an author’s troubles with Bollywood. All authors before making any deal with Bollywood people should have their rules and requests agreed to in writing, not just in speaking. If you notice the trend in Bollywood, they either steal credit or give little credit. The case of the blind item is that the author is not happy with the little credit that the director and producer gave him when they used his book to make a film. The film has been well-appreciated by the audience and naturally, the author is even more pissed that no one seems to know that he wrote the story of this film.

It’s really smart of him to go out all by himself and promote the film’s story. It’s what he did and he ain’t no young person, but still he realised how important it was to get out there and promote himself. What he went through to get that story of this film is quite something. But still, any author should be careful when selling the rights of their books to Bollywood people. We think the problem is, they get too excited and just sign about anything as long as they are getting the money and the fame that these Bollywood people promise them.

Don’t be stupid, be wise. It’s not easy to write a book, so they should be careful when dealing with these people. Also, while researching for these guesses, we came across this article where the author himself said that he suggested the actress’ name to play the lead in this film. It’s a little strange, but maybe that is true. If it’s not, perhaps he wanted to get the credit since everyone is saying she did a pretty good job in the film.

Author gets upset with director for not crediting him ‘enough’ in the movie adaptation of his book

It is human tendency to be sensitive about the work you have created. It is a matter of pride when your work is accepted, praised and appreciated. Especially for writers, whether it is a book or a film. Authors always look forward to the their credits. And when a book is being adapted into a movie, credit is all that matters.

Same is the case with this celebrated author. His book was adapted into a movie, which has received immense critical acclaim and commercial success on its release. Naturally, the team on the whole is very happy with the response that the movie has received. But apparently, despite the movie doing well, the author, on whose book this movie is based, isn’t smiling. Instead, he is upset that he hasn’t got ‘enough credit’ to his name and all the limelight is being taken away by the director of the movie.

The author has expressed his displeasure to the director and the producer of the film, who had signed a contract with him while acquiring the rights of the movie. Back then, they had promised him all that he asked for – his book’s name on the movie’s poster, his name in the credits, interviews with the media etc etc. While most of the things were adhered too, the author was unhappy that no media interviews were done with him. Also, he is upset that his name has been mentioned only once in the credit list of the movie. And while the author was promised interviews with the media, since none of them happened, he on his own went ahead and spoke to a few media houses. This apparently didn’t go down well with the producers and the director.

Instead of being apologetic about the whole mess with the author, we hear, that the director and the producer both are miffed with him for taking matters in his own hands, in terms of the publicity. The equation between the two has gone for a toss to a level that the author, who has a new book launch scheduled this month, had invited the director for the same. However, the director has excused herself from the appearance by saying, ‘I can’t make it as I have some other commitment’.

    1. The author in this case desperately wants publicity. The lady in question, on whom the story is based, explicitly asked him not to reveal her identity. And guess what? There is a press conference scheduled next month to release her identity. All this only so that the sale of his books should increase. No respect for dead people and their wishes in this world!

    2. Since it’s pv the source of this Blind is the starpariwar production owner drama king kjo himself. Ofcourse when it’s a movie with Alia he will make it all about her I mean he user it’s success to declare Alia the biggest super star of all time .

What is funny is kjo is pissed at the author for taking care of his self interest which is what kjo himself is a pro at. Lol

    3. Too bad,the industry folks usually keep stealing stories and ideas from authors/writers and never give them the credit… The credit usually goes to the lead actors or the directors… When he was promised interviews, why was he not given.. Even Chetan Bhagat was not given proper due during 3 idiots by Aamir Khan…

I think many books can be adapted into movies. There are wonderful stories written.. Since the bollywood is running out of ideas for movies, adapting book will give the needed backing for the book… But,the authors have to be extra careful in dealing with the producers… The producers promise everything orally and sometimes even written, but they don’t adhere to it… The authors don’t have strong legal teams to taken on these erring producers even if the terms and conditions are put on paper.

      1. i think 3 idiots was only inspired from his book and not an adaptation..a lot of scenes and a major plot was quite diffrnt from the book and a lot lot lot better..

i am so happy half girlfriend flopped big time..ppl will finally think twice before adapting his novels..theyr a pain to read
