Bollywood’s top talent manager Anirban Blah is accused of sexual harassment

SHOCKING UPDATE:  Anirban Blah tries to commit suicide!

Kwan founder Anirban Blah rescued from alleged suicide attempt

Anirban Blah, the co-founder of Kwan Entertainment, one of the biggest celebrity management agencies in India, was rescued in the wee hours of Friday by the Vashi Traffic police after they found him on Vashi old bridge, where he allegedly attempted to take his life. The incident happened at around 12.30 am when traffic police got a tip-off about the alleged suicide.

Mr. Blah is one of the co-founders of celebrity management firm KWAN Entertainment but was recently asked to step down from his role in the firm after some women accused him of sexual harassment.

“We had information about an individual coming towards Vashi bridge to commit suicide. We couldn’t take chance and we laid a trap there in dark,” senior police inspector from Vashi traffic said.

Mr Blah was seen climbing on the barricades of the bridge when the police caught hold of him and made him get down.

“He was crying. He seemed very frustrated and depressed. We took him to the police chowky, offered him water and asked his problem to which he said that he was frustrated with the #Metoo allegations on him. He was depressed due to the defamation he and his family faced. He along with nine other partners had founded KWAN and after four girls alleged him of harrasment in #Metoo campaign, he was asked to resign,” Mr Gaikwad said.

His wife was informed by traffic police and he was handed over to the Vashi Police thereafter.

“The traffic police handed him to us but we haven’t charged him as he has not done any (suicidal) act. He told us that he had come for a walk at the bridge. After his family reached, we handed him over to them,” senior police inspector Anil Deshmukh from Vashi police station said.

As many as four women have come forward to speak out about the sexual harassment they faced at the hands of the shameless Anirban Blah. Anirban was considered one of the top talent manager of Bollywood as his company, Kwan Entertainment, has been managing top celebrities, like Ranbir Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Tiger Shroff, Sonam Kapoor, Mahesh Babu, Rana Dagubatti, Shraddha Kapoor and Deepika Padukone.

In a blind item shared earlier this week, it was reported that everyone knew about his dirty escapades but as it is in Bollywood, no one cares and this is even true if the predator is making money.

Since the accusations have been dropping out about other personalities, Kwan Entertainment have already taken the steps by making Anirban more behind the scenes instead of making him the face of this company. They knew things were serious and if he stays at the top, he will bring all of them down. Strangely, the company has a Prevention of Sexual Harassment committee in place.

His victims, all of whom are actresses, have spoken out.

A model, who hails from a family of theatre actors and was hoping to foray into Bollywood, approached Blah last year with her portfolio. While the talent manager expressed interest in handling her film career, things spiralled downwards when he arranged a meeting with her at his Khar house. She recalls, “When I went there, I realised his wife and kids were out of town. We sat down to discuss my background and a possible career in films, when he said, ‘Waise toh tum hot ho. Why don’t you strip down and show me your body? I think you could be considered for sexy parts.’ I brushed aside his remark, saying, ‘You have a B-grade producer’s mentality. Do you consider only a woman stripping sexy? I think a woman in a pair of jeans and top could also be sexy.’

I was in awe of Konkona’s [Sen Sharma] work and wanted to created a similar niche. I made it clear that his views of my career trajectory did not match mine. Towards the end of the meeting, he smugly said, ‘You are way too independent and headstrong to be an actress.’ He pulled me into a sudden hug and tried to kiss me. I immediately turned my face around, so he planted a peck on my cheek. I pushed him away and was out of his flat in a minute. After this incident, he reached out to me a few times but I never responded.” Ask her why she didn’t report Blah to the police and she says, “I would be asked, ‘Why did you go over to his place?’ If the internal sexual harassment committee had to act on it, they would have acted by now. His stories are an open secret.

An aspiring actor recounts bumping into Blah at a party in 2014, where he promised to help her gain a foothold in the industry. “He told me he wanted to introduce me to a top music label boss and producer. At that time, he was scouting for a fresh face for the sequel of a popular franchise. A few days later, he called me over to Taj Lands End for a meeting. When I reached the coffee shop, he gave me the number of his suite, stating that casting is done in bedrooms and not in public spaces. I blocked his number since then and am happy struggling for work every day.” She did not report the sexual misconduct. “I had handled it on my own. What’s the point of making a case out of it?”

An actor, known as much for her delicate beauty as for her acting chops, says she would maintain a safe distance from Blah during her brief stint with Kwan, two years ago. “I never directly dealt with him. After one of my successful films, Blah and I came face-to-face at a meeting. My manager was not a part of it. In the course of our chat, he asked me if I would be willing to be part of an unnatural sex set-up. I asked him to back off in harsh words and left the meeting. In the six months that followed, I stopped getting brand offers. Some of my existing brand endorsement deals were transferred to other actresses whom he was close to. Without much hullabaloo, I ended my association with the agency.”

Another actor, who ended her professional equation with Blah on a bad note, says the talent manager attempts “a systematic breakdown of confidence” of women by sexually harassing them. “Blah is a unique predator. First, you are made to feel inferior about your looks, your body. He told me I have small breasts, and hence, won’t have a long run in the Indian market.” Blah did not respond to our calls or detailed texts seeking his comment on the story.

On his part, Anirban has fled the country. He has made his social media accounts private and has disabled his Facebook account. We know because a few days back we took screenshots of his accounts to post in that blind item. It seems he didn’t expect the allegations to come out so quickly. Well, yes, why not? Since he has been successfully acting like a shameless creep for a long time now. He has also been fired from Deepika’s Live Love Laugh Foundation. Both Kwan and LLLF have issued a statement regarding his situation:

The irony is, all of these men claimed there is no such thing as the casting couch! Now they are all caught and have been outed.

    1. What he did was totally wrong, it is very good that he is repenting on his mistakes but Thank GOD, he has not lost his life, he should take this life given to back to him as a second chance from GOD and repent immediately. That will be very good for him and his family.

      1. I don’t think this creep is repenting at all. Narcissists like him who think they are all powerful never feel sorry for their deeds. They only feel sorry they are caught. This is just a stunt to garner sympathy. I won’t be surprised if the tip-off came from his phone.

    2. I didn’t know they had huge stars under their name. Now I would love to see what these so called stars have to say about this incident. Especially Hrithik (the mother of all controversy) and Mommy’s boy, Ranbir.

      1. I dunno, to me Bollywood journalists today seem to be either really dumb or on the payroll of the stars, they never ask anything uncomforable or hard-hitting. vikas was accused last year did anyone ask hrithik about it when he signed super30? morani was accused in 2015 has anyone asked srk about it? does anyone ask amitabh about the panama papers?

that HT leadership summit with ranveer and deepika was so ridiculous. they didnt even try to keep it remotely professional just stupid stuff like how they first met, when are they getting married.

ranveer is actually pretty sharp i’d like to see someone like karan thapar interview him. the only thing i dislike about RS is how beholden he is to YashRaj. i’ve always hated YRF all their 90s and 00s films had these silly women dancing around in sarees in the snow their only aim in life seemed to be getting married. like simran in ddlj. i mean you were raised in london, presumably college educated, cmon girl get a friggin job instead of being packed off by babuji to a village and married to a total stranger!

        1. Oh my god, Yes!!!! You know #MeToo would not have happened if the number of educated, working, financially independent women had not reached a critical mass. No wonder, Bollywood will forever glorify the simpering, over-glamorized, jobless woman. Anything other would be a danger to their patriarchy feudal mindset.

    3. the fact deepika put this guy on the board of her foundation suggests he didnt abuse her. maybe he was small fry at the time he managed her? but is she that naive to not hear the rumours if (as suggested in the blind) his predatory behaviour was an open secret and he was using her name to lure girls. surely someone in her team should have warned her when she was choosing board members…. smh.

      1. An unnatural sex act. I wonder who the actress was. I think Deepika was well aware of his stinky attitude but not necessarly that he is and out and out predator. With rumors like this and him fleeing the country says quiet a bit. Didnt girls let her know he was using her name to lure them? Really I have no clue but he was on the board of her foundation and no he isnt a small fry in his line of work. Sigh!

          1. Why do you want to out the victims? Let them be anonymous until they feel safe enough to identify themselves.

Let’s concentrate on naming, shaming and punishing the predators.

      2. Honestly the way he ran I am imagining very gruesome things, the other rape accused didn’t even hide.this one fled, like he was expecting to be immediately arrested.i smell something really fishy

    4. I am amazed that so many stars worked with this man and closed his eyes to his stunts. now everyone acts like saints, refusing to work with him after the case has been publicized. infamous bollywood

    5. l someone should ask ranbir for his comments,he is shrewd not being in social media …can hide and let’s his team do pr.srk aamir amitabh salman akshay ajay all will be subjugated to Questions about mee too as they have films.this rat is holed up with his mini mouse ..both of them won’t come out until late next year.wouldhave loved too see his expression when press asks questions…..

      1. Correct me if I am wrong,if the stories about him are so so bad and an open secret why did these people work with him.as far as I know it was on ranbir kapoor recommendation that she quit bling and joined this company… what a friend to have.

      2. No, it was definitely not on Ranbir’s recommendation that she joined KWAN. She joined towards the later half of 2011, when she was on a Ranbir-slagging spree. One of the first moves by her management team was to get her to walk out of Race 2, but too bad she had signed a watertight contract and had to turn up for shooting. Deepika’s PR became aggressive when she joined KWAN. And oh, Anirban was never the small fry — he bloody owned the company along with three others. Anirban was never involved in the day-to-day management of celebrities, but when it came to cutting deals he was involved, esp. the brands. Deepika’s success post-2012 has a lot to do with Anirban doing the hassling for her. It was also thanks to Anirban and KWAN that she got her Hollywood break — CAA bought a stake in KWAN and one of the first talents KWAN pushed Stateside was Deepika. When Deepika joined KWAN, she was sort of an established name, so Anirban wouldn’t try harassing her. He does that with strugglers, those looking for their break. Nidhi Agerwal has the sort of profile that Anirban molests.
