Box Office Battle: Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil vs Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees

As you all know for the past week, The Roshans and Shah Rukh Khan’s friendship is dead! The reason is the battle that went on before, during and after both of their films released in theatres. ‘Raees’ and ‘Kaabil’ released last week and based on the collections, it seems that ‘Raees’ won this race. But we have to ask, at what price? It seems that Rakesh Roshan was damn mad when he found out that ‘Raees’ got more screens than his film ‘Kaabil’.

He seems to have forgot that during box office battles, it’s always the bigger star who gets the most screens. In his case, he claims that the distributors were promised ‘Baahubali 2’, which is why they gave ‘Raees’ more screens.

He must have forgot that when his son Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Bang Bang’ was released, Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Haider’ also released on the same date. Naturally, ‘Bang Bang’ got more screens despite the producers booking that particular release date much later than the ‘Haider’ producers. But in that battle, ‘Haider’ won more accolades and also recovered its production cost at the box office. It also helped that both Shahid and the film’s director didn’t burden the film’s budget with their fees.

They offered to take their cut if the film makes money, which helped it tremendously recovering its costs. There was also the battle at the box office between ‘Dilwale’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’ when Shah Rukh’s film got more screens than Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film. We all know which film won the battle. So, sometimes it’s the best film that ends up winning the box office battle.

If Rakesh Roshan made a good film that the audience appreciates, then it will end up making more money. All that aside, let’s just take a look at how much both films managed to make. By the way, ‘Kaabil’ was also released in Tamil while ‘Raees’ was released in just Hindi.
