Deepika Padukone Launches Mental Health Campaign in Indian Schools

Keeping the promise that she made when she went public with her experience with depression, Deepika Padukone has launched her own produced mental health campaign in high schools. This campaign was launched by her foundation, Live Love Laugh Foundation (TLLLF), which is a non-profit organisation. Titled ‘You Are Not Alone’, this campaign is aimed to help high school students, who suffer from stress, anxiety and depression. It will also help people understand more about mental health illness and how it’s not as crazy as most people think it is.

Deepika Padukone on helping others fight mental illness
Last year, I spoke about my own fight with depression as I felt I could not just sit by and watch as people who were going through what I had gone through. So, we decided to launch ‘You Are Not Alone’ with an idea to raise awareness and to enable students and teachers to identify signs of anxiety and depression.

Deepika on launching her campaign in local schools
We believe that schools can be the first line of defence for emotional and mental health disorders in our youth. We could also help connect the schools to counselling organisations and independent counsellors if they need such help. Our aim is to bring the issue of mental health from the shadows and include this discussion in drawing room conversations from being spoken of in hushed tones.
