Deepika Padukone speaks about Depression

Ever since she announced to the world that she suffered from depression, Deepika Padukone has been actively involved in creating awareness around this curable disease. When she revealed that she suffered from depression, many said it was a PR move. Still, it’s been almost 3 years and Deepika is still very much involved in creating awareness when it comes to depression. She has joined hands with Karnataka, her home state, to raise awareness and destigmatise depression. Deepika is using her foundation to reassure those, who suffer from depression, that they can be helped. In an event recently, Deepika spoke about a bunch of things that are related to depression.

The thing is, sometimes the people suffering from it have no idea. They tend to think that they are not the problem, someone else is. The best way to deal with this is to talk to a professional. It could be a counsellor or a psychiatrist. If it’s not dealt with, the problem will keep getting bigger. People are afraid to seek help because of the stigma around depression. It used to be said that if you suffer from depression, it means you are crazy or have a mental problem. That’s not true at all, but some people still think this way. They are ashamed to either seek treatment or help their loved ones get help. Those, who suffer from depression, not only need support from their closed ones, they also need to realise themselves that they have to get better. It takes time, but it is possible for someone to overcome depression.

Deepika on joining forces with the government

Recent initiatives by the government show that the authorities are committed to addressing and combating the imposing challenge that depression presents. I hope together we create an environment where people afflicted with mental illnesses feel comfortable, safe and loved.

    1. Nowadays it’s a thing for celebrities to be linked with some kind of sickness. I wonder it’s real or it’s all a joke.
