Dhruv Vikram makes his debut Varmaa – The Tamil remake of Arjun Reddy

‘Arjun Reddy’ was released in 2017 and its surprising success made other film industries stand up and take notice of the film. You might have heard of the Hindi remake since last year. There was so much going on about the film’s casting, the producer wanted Arjun Kapoor but the director had his eyes set on Shahid Kapoor. He sent out numerous blind items about how Arjun does not look fit enough to play the role. Arjun was almost signed on but then he decided against doing the film due to the humiliating news that kept spreading about his weight.

    April 2018 – Bollywood Blind Item 9

Vikram, who happens to be one of the best Indian actors (according to us), announced last year that his son will be making his debut in the Tamil remake of ‘Arjun Reddy’.

Having seen the original film, we were wondering how that is going to work since Dhruv is a young boy and looks like one! Actually, he looks a lot like his dad with a bit of his mother as well. He’s like a slightly more handsome version of his dad – a softer version!

There is an age difference as well as a look difference. Let’s see, the original star of ‘Arjun Reddy’, Vijay Deverakonda is 29 years old and looks like mature. Shahid Kapoor, who is the star of the Hindi remake titled ‘Kabir Singh’, is 37 years old and looks like an older man-child.

This is the trailer of the original ‘Arjun Reddy’ in Telugu:

And, this is Dhruv Vikram, who is 23 years old, in the Tamil remake titled ‘Varmaa’:

There are two look parts in ‘Arjun Reddy’, one is when the actor is in college and looks young and the second is when he goes out of his mind, gets drunk and grows his beard out while carrying out his profession as a medical doctor. Dhruv looks like he is perfect for the college part, but is he going to be able to carry out the doctor look? That’s what we were wondering. But then, actors are meant to act right? So it can’t be that it is impossible for him to look the part.

See for yourself, here’s the trailer of ‘Varmaa’ below:

Speaking of Dhruv, last year just before the teaser launch of his film and while he was still shooting for it, he was involved in an accident. It was reported that he was drunk when he rammed his BMW into a couple of parked rickshaws on the road.

Now, if you think about it, if this news was about a Hindi film actor or his son, his career would be done and over before it even started. That’s what we initially thought was going to happen to Dhruv, but nothing happened and the incident was forgotten. To be fair, no one died so…But it’s quite eerie considering how his dad was a victim of an accident when he was young before his career in movies kicked off. He suffered a lot and had to undergo more than 20 surgeries when he was thrown off a bike driven by his friend. Well, young boys do make mistakes, right?

Dhruv is not his father, he did not live a life like his father did before he became an actor. So, it will be interesting to see how he plays off as an actor on the big screen. This is probably the first actor from the generation of lead actors that we watched, like Surya, Vijay, Vikram, Ajith and so on, is going to have his son make his debut on the big screen.

You know, having watched ‘Arjun Reddy’, we found it similar to ‘Dev D’. Same Devdas plot in a different way or with a different twist. So it didn’t seem that big of a deal since most people were going crazy about it. We already went crazy about ‘Dev D’ when it released, so…

Also, the lead actor, Vijay, appeared so familiar and we were wondering the whole time, “who does he remind us of?”. Then after weeks, it hit us: he looks a little like the young Sunil Shetty we used to watch as kids! A little, something is there.

    1. Vijay Deverakonda has a screen presence that really helped the movie’s humongous success. Otherwise the character he played in the movie is an obnoxious, self-destructive brat (just like DevD).

Only few actors have what it takes to make an audience sympathetic and fond of such characters.

I hope Vijay D makes good choices in terms of content. His movies after Arjun Reddy were underwhelming to me.

      1. @tina Vijay had much more box office success with those underwhelming(even acc to me) Geeta Govindam. AR was a one time thing …its a combination of the actor-director’s naivety and rawness in terms of being in film world and spending years on character development and script.

That sheen is gone from any actor-director who taste overwhelming success , that fierceness and thirst to prove , lend ample time to become the character . It was a right role for a right person made by a raw-new-young director who had belief and at the same time had freedom to present the movie as he wanted. Things fell in place …for both of them.Such occurrences are rare and probably one time thing for ppl involved.

      2. That’s true Kiran. He’s a good actor though, it would be a pity if he at least didn’t get the opportunities to act in well made movies. But his movies have definitely been doing well at the box office.

    2. For me Vikram is one of the best actors in India. When some Salman fans trying to prove me that he is a good actor and telling me to watch Tere Naam ( which I did many years ago and didn’t like at all) I always say first watch its original Sethu to understand what is real acting. Vikram’s acting can make any movie watchable. For example first I watched Ravaan with Abhishek in a lead role and didn’t like it at all then I watched Tamil version Raavanan starring Vikram and loved it so much

    3. Vijay devarakonda in arjun reddy is the BEST!!!! Honestly I think no one can justify AR character better than him . Varmaa Trailer is not good it looks like something raunchy (i couldn’t find other words to define it,) his looks arent that compatible with vijay . See those who have watched AR are going to compare dhruv’s looks n acting and they wouldn’t be satisfied with it . But for those who may not seen it , this movie might do.
And with Shahid’s no shirt clause and his beard looks , well lets just finish it with saying ” AR is fantastic, Vijay is the Best , No other actors n movie remakes would not make justice to the original piece”

      1. And as admin mentioned , Vikram is one of the hardworking actor. He should have been given national award for ” I ” . The movie Script is weak but he more than made it by his performances and transformations.he deserved it. Instead sr.bachchan was awarded .that wasn’t fair😣

        1. So agree with you…I doubt, if the jury even watched Vikram’s performance. Most of our Hindi film industry is PR driven and survives on hype. Bacchan is one of the best actors, but there always were better actors than him. Kamal Hassan, Sanjeev Kumar to name a few. And I did not like his acting in PAA at all.

          1. Tere Naam arrived at a time when Salman’s reputation was going down the hill. This film helped the audience and it sort of manipulated them into thinking that this was why Salman acted the way he did when Aish left him. That jilted lover part worked so well in his favour when in reality this film was disturbing on so many levels. This whole Salman-Aish saga was forgotten once the movie became a hit! For Vikram, this was a work of labour for him, he really slaved for this film and put his everything in it, including his wife’s money. Salman got it easy and people actually think of this movie as his best role.

          2. @Deep u r right. Gangai amaran , one of the jury ,said they didnt have time to review the movie and so it didnt even shortlisted to finals
