Back on the small screen, that is…On a reality TV show called ‘Super Dancer – Chapter 4’ that airs Saturday and Sunday at 8pm.
Govinda and Neelam appearing together on the small stage and dancing together is a big deal even though it might be for the small screen! The episode with Neelam and Govinda is meant to celebrate their 35 years in Bollywood, which means the contestants will be performing on their hit numbers from their 14 films together. Other than giving their verdict on the show after every contestant’s performance, Neelam and Govinda will also be reliving and sharing their memories of working together only the good times since both of them have moved on and are married to different people with kids! It’s still weird, though. Wonder what it took to get them back together in public? Is it the money or did they need the publicity?
I was extremely excited when I got to know that Govinda was going to be with me on Super Dancer – Chapter 4. It was definitely a kind of reunion, and I was really happy about sharing screen space with him after over 30 years. It was incredible. We were Bollywood’s dancing jodi of the 1980s. Thanks to Super Dancer – Chapter 4, that I was reminded how popular was our jodi, and the love for our songs. It was exhilarating to experience the fandom in person and to remember all those old songs. It was a great feeling. – Neelam
Neither did Neelam know about it. She got to know only after a year. I probably did not tell her because I did not want to break this successful screen pair. And to be honest, to a certain extent, I did exploit my personal relationship with Neelam for professional ends. I played dirty with her. I should have told her that I was married. – Govinda
For those not in the know…
Govinda once gave an interview where he shamelessly admitted to being in love with Neelam and his sadness over not being able to marry her. We are saying “shamelessly” because the man was married with small children at that time. He didn’t give a crap about his wife and just went on and on about he was forced into that marriage just because his wife was his mother’s choice.
In the same interview, he pacified himself by saying that his mother also predicted a second marriage in the future for him. This thought has been ingrained in his brain for so long that it didn’t make him think twice before jumping in a relationship with the malkin, years later. He and his mother were both superstitious and believed in numerology so the fact that this thing was in his kundli, it was stuck in his mind that he is going to get married again. This also explains how he remarried his wife overseas and again on a reality TV show so that he can just let go of this superstitious belief.

You might not be able to remember Govinda’s last film on the big screen but you might just remember the last TV show you saw Govinda on! That’s because Govinda has been on a lot of TV shows, just for the sake of it. Sometimes he promotes his daughter’s appearances and other times, he brings his wife, he has been seen on the small screen more than on the big screen in the past few years. His daughter is still waiting to be launched in Bollywood and his son too is ready to be launched.
Neelam made her comeback in Bollywood by being part of KJo’s ‘Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives’ reality show. It was a strange casting option but since this is Bollywood and it was a Karan Johar’s production, it doesn’t seem that far-fetched that she is ready to start working in films now.
