Haier is a manufacturer of household appliances that originates from People’s Republic of China. Its headquarters is situated in Qingdao, Shandong. The company was first established in 1984 as Qingdao Refrigerator Co. and later on adopted its current name, Haier, in 1992. Haier got its name from the last two syllables of the Chinese transliteration of the name of its German joint venture partner, Liebherr (pronounced as “Li-bo-hai-er”).
