Ever since Casey Affleck was announced as a nominee for the Oscars 2016, lots of people have voiced their concern. But that is not a surprise from the Academy Awards, considering they have even awarded known pedophiles and rapists. Two women, producer Amanda White and cinematographer Magdalena Gorka, who worked with Casey Affleck accused and sued him for sexual harassment in 2010. Casey denied all the allegations, but eventually settle both cases by paying undisclosed amounts to the victims. So because of that, it was or could never be proven in court whether he really sexually harassed these ladies. His case is similar to Nate Parker. If you can remember, we spoke about how he made this film about black slavery and while promoting it, he was asked about the rape case he was acquitted of. All hell broke loose and people did their own research about the whole case and with that, they ended up not supporting him or his movie. It was truly a mess that Nate Parker was in. Casey’s case though is different. He was accused of sexual harassment and the difference between him and Nate is that Casey has the support of his brother, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. They have both been with him throughout the award season to show their support. We won’t say more, check out what the victims said in their reports about Casey. Is it right to separate an actor’s talent from his personal creepy behavior?
In her complaint, White claimed that Affleck constantly discussed his “sexual exploits” during filming, and that at one point, he directed another crew member to show her his penis, despite her objections. White also alleged that Affleck once attempted to get her to stay in a hotel room with him, and when she said no, he “grabbed her in a hostile manner in an effort to intimidate her into complying.” Gorka described similar behavior in her complaint, including a disturbing incident in which Affleck allegedly crawled into bed with her while she was sleeping. The crew was staying at Affleck’s apartment in New York after a long night of shooting, Gorka said, and Affleck told her she could sleep in his bedroom, while he slept on the couch. According to her complaint, Gorka woke up that night to find Affleck “lying in bed next to her.” He had entered the room while she was sleeping, she said, and when she woke up, “he had his arm around her, was caressing her back, his face was within inches of hers and his breath reeked of alcohol.” When she asked him to leave the room, he got angry. Gorka called her treatment on set “the most traumatizing of her career.”
On his part, Casey Affleck said:
I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else. There’s really nothing I can do about it. Other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time.
What’s also galling is he has the weight of Ben Afleck and Matt Damon behind him. The ‘Old Boys Network’ is alive and kicking.
Good on the actress who refused to meet him!
