It has been a while since we last did an OSOP Recommendations for the TV show section. We had this saved and finally got to completing the list. Shoutout to that one reader, who requested us to share this list. Please accept our apologies for the delay.
As you may or may not know, other than gossips, we enjoy watching TV shows. This is what we like to do to relax: find interesting restaurants and watch TV shows and movies. There is nothing like getting lost on the big or small screen.
We don’t like all genres and we don’t watch shows that are similar to something else we watched before.
What we look for when we watch these television shows is something unique and something that is eye-catching. It has to grab our interest and make us want to come back every week to watch it.
Thrillers are quite interesting to watch because it is a difficult genre to crack. The thing with TV Shows with a great first season is that they find it hard to keep the momentum going. It’s like they are happy they got renewed and try hard to make the second season work. But then, after that it starts dragging. The challenge is to make all the seasons interesting before the network decides to cancel it out of boredom.
Bear in mind, some of these shows are strictly 18+ or 21+ due to the mature content.
Last year, we discovered Beat – a German show from Amazon Prime. It was quite entertaining with new material. Part of the storyline included something like how rich people are conning refugees with no place to go by stealing their body parts. Beat is the name of the lead character, who manages an underground dance club or pub, and gets tangled in all of this.
Then, there was Beat , which is a show based on quite a common genre on TV but somehow it was quite interesting to watch. To its credit, the storylines are interesting plus the actors on this show are well-known for their acting talent. Connie Britton and Angela Bassett are amazing!
Pose is the most recent show we watched. We kind of missed when it debut on FX, but accidentally stumbled upon it. It’s quite refreshing because this is the first show to be made with transgender actors. There is nothing offensive about the show and it does a nice job of making the viewers relate to the characters. It was a little new to us because we don’t know what it is like to live like that, but we got used to it because the show treats the subject in a delicate manner.
The Bodyguard was quite good at first. Then, it went downhill. By the end of the show, it got really bad. But, Richard Madden is quite handsome!
Cleaning Up is a nice show about this cleaner, who is an addict gambler and suddenly hits upon the secrets of the stock market. She makes some money, loses it and manages to con some intelligent stock people.
Killing Eve is one of the best TV shows last year. Quite a thrilling storyline and very interesting to keep watching after every episode. Now, it will be even more interesting to see if they can keep the flame running next season. It’s super nice that Sandra Oh finally got a very interesting show other than playing the doctor. And jodie Comer gets quite an interesting role as one of her first biggest. She is still new and in ‘Killing Eve’, she is AMAZING! You will hate how good she is and like her at the same time!
The Sinner was quite good too, it was a breath of fresh air. We caught both seasons, 1 and 2. Season 1 had Jessica Biel in it, she is also the producer of the show. Both seasons were quite interesting. They do a good job of keeping the suspense alive. We like shows that surprised us and proved us wrong, The Sinner was it. It’s a must-watch if you haven’t catch it yet.
Alright, so now the Hindi TV shows. Most of these shows were aired on Netflix, MX and Amazon. All the Hindi shows are not for those below 18. They are all for the mature and adult audience. It does kind of seem that the online platform is perfect for Indian shows with no limits when it comes to showcasing sex and violence. In other words, they go all out with their adult content.
Sacred Games is already so popular by now. It’s a good past-time show, but not as interesting as ‘Inside Edge’. Very happy that Saif finally found something good to star in. And no, any resemblance to Katrina and Salman is purely coincidental. The film’s writers very smartly choose and picked up some real inspirations to make the storyline inspiring. As far as Katrina goes, this isn’t about her. It’s more of an amalgamation of a couple of people.
Hey Prabhu! has that young boy from ‘Udaan’, who is not young anymore. It is a show for young people with mature content for young people. The response has been really good, they might just come back for another season.
Finally got to watch Lust Stories. Basically, it’s a bunch of stories about women and sex. Something like that. These are all short stories directed by Zoya Akhtar, Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap. The short story by Zoya was the one that stood out. It was quite sad, actually. The one that starred Radhika Apte was the craziest one and KJo’s one was nice and funny. Manisha Koirala looked very pretty, it was nice to see her onscreen in the Dibakar Banerjee’s version.
2018 – TV Shows
2018 was a little slow for TV shows that were already airing, such as Shameless, The Affair and so on. Shameless will be bidding adieu to its leading lady soon while The Affair gave their leading lady a horrible goodbye on the show; so horrible that we actually felt really sorry for her.
So, below are the shows that we have been watching and following. The ones marked in Red have ended already but are available on DVD.
Some of these shows are British shows while others are American. There’s only one German show and some Indian shows.

We have not yet managed to catch Seven Seconds, You, The Handmaid’s Tale, Made in Heaven, Four More Shots and many more.
We will update our OSOP Recommendations once we have a new list.
In the meantime, do share your favourites. And, did you manage to catch any of these TV shows?
I finished the entire season of Made in Heaven in one day…it was super good!
Ah Admin i feel your pain re the Affair. it was one of those shows i didnt LOVE but felt compelled to watch till the end because i was invested in Ruth Wilson’s character. The ending was too too brutal. my recos:
Netflix:
The Good Place: brilliant comedy about the afterlife with some musings on ethics and philosophy thrown in for good measure …starring the adorable Kristen Bell. (PS for anyone who loved her in Veronica Mars like i did, a reboot is in the works!)
Amazon Prime:
Mirzapur: i think some of the hysteria around the series is overrated but i did thoroughly enjoy seeing the usually dulcet-sweet Pankaj Tripathi as a complete badass. Some genuinely hilarious moments mixed with some very hard-to-watch (and somewhat gratuitous) blood and gore…
HBO:
Sharp Objects: very slow brooding murder-mystery thriller set in the Deep South with a shocking twist at the end. Amy Adams at her finest. I cant believe this woman is yet to win an Oscar.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: i know this isnt strictly a TV show but its absolutely brilliant. I also end up learning something new every week on a seriously wide range of issues …from bitcoin to the NRA, from the crisis in Venezuela to (of course) a healthy dose of Trump-bashing. 🙂
Omg yes, Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson in Sharp Objects! What performances! And I’m completely in love with Jodie Comer in particular and Kiling Eve in general. Let’s hope S2 is as good, or even better!
