Watching TOIFA the other week (bits of it since it was really boring) I realized that we have never voted on the best live performer on stage. I always thought that all actresses can dance well onscreen, but the thing is it’s a totally different view offscreen. While performing offscreen on a stage in front of thousands of people, actresses have to dance well and also, give out the correct expressions.
Let’s see below based on the best on stage performances of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor – all of whom, I have chosen their best on stage performance. Vote below.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan – IIFA 2009
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a trained dancer, so you can expect her to be really good at dancing. True it is as you can’t find a bad on stage performance by Aishwarya, but the one below has to be the most energetic dance performance of Aish on stage where all the stars present cheered for her.
Priyanka Chopra – Rajiv Gandhi Awards 2009
There are too many amazing performances of Priyanka Chopra on stage; I had to make a difficult choice to choose just one. Since Aish doesn’t really perform on stage anymore, Priyanka has been a performer non-stop for the last three years or so. She is really good, I mean perfect on stage. She gets everything right. Priyanka’s performance at the Rajiv Gandhi Awards 2009 is one of my favourites, especially when she goes down to the audience to get Shahid Kapur to dance for her (she manages to greet Hrehaan Roshan, son of Hrithik Roshan, on the way). And she danced this whole performance by wearing really high heels.
Kareena Kapoor – Max Stardust Awards 2012
Anyone, who has seen Kareena Kapoor perform live on stage, knows that she isn’t that great of a dancer. Still Kareena gives out the right expressions during her performance, which pretty much makes up for everything else that is lacking. Lately, Kareena has been very energetic in her dancing and she appears to be focusing a lot on her dance steps. Maybe she took a tip or two from Priyanka Chopra.
Katrina Kaif – Stardust Awards 2010
It was really hard to choose the right performance of Katrina Kaif. I’m not saying she’s bad on stage, but what we are aiming for here is dance, real dance on stage not throwing the performer in the air or lifting her left, right and centre. She is someone, who has improved over the years. Her dancing onscreen is perfect, but offscreen there are still some issues here and there. But still, she is good enough to be featured on this list. Maybe Katrina should try to tone down on the gyrations, especially on her upper area. Or maybe she’s catering to the male audience, which explains a lot.
Anushka Sharma – Max Stardust Awards 2011
Though Anushka Sharma is a great actress onscreen, she still struggles when it comes to performing live on stage. But in this performance at the Max Stardust Awards 2011, Anushka is at her best. In this live stage performance, Anushka paid tribute to the best dancing item songs in Bollywood and she also danced to a song from her own film.
