By now, you must have read the gazillion of articles out about both Sanjay Dutt and Ranbir Kapoor. ‘Sanju’ previously titled ‘Dutt’ is some sort of light biopic about the life of Sanjay Dutt. The role of Sanjay is played by Ranbir Kapoor. It is titled ‘Sanju’ because Sanjay Dutt’s mom, the late Nargis, used to call him that. It’s a good thing ‘Sanju’ was her nickname for him because most of us get animals’ names as our nicknames! We know we are late to report on this, but what to do. We said we would it hence here it is. So, apologies to the ones or the one who requested it.
‘Sanju’ is definitely an attempt to clean up Sanjay Dutt’s image. Before, when the teaser had released, we mentioned that it looked like an attempt to bring Sanju back and make him popular again, but after all these articles and subsequent videos that came out, it is clear that this film is an appeal to the public to make them all remember the Khalnayak actor or the Saajan innocent guy. Whether this film flops or becomes a hit, Sanjay Dutt will come out as a winner. Well, to be fair he will come out as a winner only to those who failed to see through whatever rainbow filter Rajkumar Hirani had on while shooting this film.
Sure, Sanju’s life is quite something but like we mentioned before, it’s hard to feel bad for someone who brought it all on himself. Hirani, who is a softie himself, was blown away by what Sanju went through and it’s why he decided to work on a script based on Sanju’s life story. Like when he made ‘Munnabhai’, he saw the fun side to the whole story and not the cheating or conning people side. That is just the way he sees things, like an admirer looking from the outside and just admiring what he’s seeing without thinking too much of it. That is Raju Hirani for you.
During the whole promotion period of ‘Sanju’, two things were commonly spoken about and were even highlighted/sent out from the producers/film’s marketing team to the media.
The first is the epic Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt fake love story. We realised the other day that Ranbir cannot promote his films without sounding ridiculous. He is alright at the beginning but then he goes on a verbal diarrhea rampage. The things that shoot out of his mouth sound both unbelievable and ridiculous. You don’t know whether he is high or he is purposely saying these things to mess with people. One thing was sure, though. When you see his interviews, he seems to be on autopilot mode. Like he is prepared to answer the usual questions he is asked, but when he is asked something new, he doesn’t know how to answer; he tries to think and then ends up giving a ridiculous answer. If he doesn’t like promoting films this much, he can just do it like Salman Khan or Aamir Khan. This is also probably the first time, he has been sent out on his own to promote his films.
The second are the Sanjay Dutt articles. Clearly, the person who has written them must have lived a very quiet life and must also be a man. Why? Because of this:
Note that it’s not “dating” women but “sleeping” with women! Guess he didn’t have the needed charm back then to pull this off by himself. In case you didn’t know, his mother being a Muslim had a burial according to Islamic rituals.
So, he is that good of a con that he managed to hide behind the likes of so-called casanovas like Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan! No wonder, he said he will break his daughter’s legs if she gets into films. Remember, we told you guys here that actors, who don’t want their daughters to join the industry, are most likely the ones, who have preyed on actresses.
This just keeps getting better and better. We all know he was a drug addict, but when did he become a sex addict?
Whoever thought of using this to promote this film, hats off to you. Before all this, we thought Sanju was a good man who has been wronged. Now, all that is coming out is just making him look like a spoilt brat, drug addict, rich kid and a freaking grown-up man who does what he wants without thinking of the consequences. All the reasons he gave for his behaviour or for his misdoings don’t make sense. Had these happen to a normal person, that person would have been locked up forever or been dead. He is lucky he had the support of his father and sisters whenever he got in trouble. Speaking of his family, while sharing the teaser we spoke about how his dad and sister teared up on Simi Garewal’s show while talking about how Sanju got in trouble and how he became an addict.
It is understandable you do certain things as a naive teenager without a care for the world, but how do you explain getting in serious trouble as a grown-up adult? When you have a wife and daughter? When your wife got cancer and fought her battle alone while you were busy chasing your heroine 24/7. When your wife recovered from cancer and came back to an empty home because you couldn’t care less for her now that you had the attention of this heroine? To think that he is telling people that he took drugs because his mother was sick with cancer, but when his wife got cancer he got busy with other women?
This reeks of extreme spoilt brat behaviour and Sanju being the only son pretty much got his way in the family. To think that he is the only son out of three kids and yet he gave his family so much trouble! An old friend of Sanjay Dutt, probably an ex-friend, complained to Subhash K Jha about this:
The media is already calling out the similarities between Ranbir’s relationship with his father and Sanju’s relationship with his dad. Apparently, their mistakes is a blame-it-on-the-mother type of syndrome!
‘Sanju’s teaser was a light one, as in they were trying to make everything that happened light. We all thought that perhaps the trailer will be a little heavier, but that was not the case. If this was a Ram Gopal Varma film, it would have been the real thing and more. So, the trailer starts with a little introduction from Ranbir. His voice sounds a lot like when he did ‘Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani’. When he plays this kind of roles, he employs this type of voice.
First things first. When we watched the trailer, we couldn’t help but think if drug addicts remember their past? Like, do they remember what really happened or did they blackout during that time? If they didn’t blackout, we are sure their memory won’t be the same because of the treatments they have to go through to get rid of this addiction. Most of the films is about Sanju and can only be told by him, so how much of all this is true? How much did he make up in his head and how much did Raju create just for cinematic effect?
Did he really sleep with more than 300 women? If he was a sex addict, would he count the number of women he slept with? Don’t know why, this is reminding us of Leo DiCapucino. See, he is almost like an addict too. He himself said that he is scared that one day his dong dong will fall off because of how fast he goes from one woman/girl to another. In fact, we remember this one time at the Cannes Film Festival, he had a bet with someone there that he can get at least 8 girls to sleep with him that night. And, he did! What do you call this type of men? Unattached, unemotional or in need of a 100 hard slaps by their mothers? Or perhaps, by a police officer:
See, white people know nothing! sometimes a slap at the right moment can go a long way.
Back to the hallucination part, when those gulab jamuns were coming out of the potty in jail, did it really happen? Only asking because we have never heard of this before. If Sanju is implying that they did it on purpose, we doubt that it’s possible. Like, someone is down there under the ground pushing a spatula up the pipe. Nah! Coincidentally, this gulab jamun scene has been cut from the final version because the censor board said sales of samosas and popcorn will go down after watching this scene on the big screen. Don’t worry, we won’t show you that scene, but here’s a similar one.
Must have been a Louis Vuitton toilet seat!
His problems are more like rich people’s problems, rich spoilt brats – to be exact. We remember and we are sure many of you have been through the same thing. When you get mad at your parents, you go into your room and sulk. If you don’t have a room, you just sulk and don’t eat your food. Where does someone get drugs from a dealer at a moment like this? How does it work? Did he save up those special drugs in his drawer and decided to try it the first time he got mad at his dad?
Naturally, the whole terrorist thing is just whitewashed. Seriously, though. Ask yourself this question. You are friends with a known underworld don, you know he is a don and that he does bad things, including killing people. How dumb or ignorant can you be to agree to take this don’s weapons and keep it with you just because he asked you to?
Let’s not forget the long transcripts available on Sanju’s conversations with Chota Shakeel. Sanju was still in touch with him after he was sentenced to jail the first time. These two chatted like BFFs. Chota Shakeel sure liked being friends with a celebrity and Sanju was too dumb to see that. Maybe he was threatened, but Sanju too complained to him about how Govinda came late to work. He was promised that won’t happen again and the same don discussed killing Hrithik Roshan with Sanju. Was he still high during that time that he didn’t understand all this?
Still, he was in denial when he was first sent to jail. According to Aloo Paratha ki papa, this is what happened:
Sanju spoke about this scene some time back
Going by the way he got married to his girlfriends and then leaving them sounds like an impulse that he acts on that he later doesn’t know how to handle. Basically, he does what he wants without consulting anyone because he has always been allowed to.
Sometimes we wonder that if all of his misbehaviours were commited by his one of his sisters, what would have been Sanju’s reaction? Would he have broken her leg? To think that his sisters, their families and his dad had to make their lives all about Sanju because of all the troubles that he was in. As a human being, it’s not easy to sleep peacefully at night knowing that one of your own that you love is in jail. Not to mention how they must have been traumatised by all of this.
Frankly speaking, a movie on Sanjay Dutt’s father would have been much more interesting to watch. It’s why Paresh Rawal looks well-suited for this role; he is looking so young despite being well over 60. Honestly, any actor would have looked good playing Sunil Dutt. It could have been Nana Patekar or Boman Irani, they would have all worked in playing this character. When the character itself is a good character, you can’t go wrong. Sunil Dutt was quite a legend, in a good way. He sent Sanju to the best rehab centres in the world and when Sanju refused to get better, this is what he did:
Sunil Dutt’s love story with Nargis was a well-told tale. Shah Rukh Khan re-enacted that scene in ‘Om Shanti Om’ when he jumped into the fire to save Deepika Padukone. Sunil Dutt genuinely cared about his role as a politician. He genuinely cared about helping people and promoting peace. He was known to walk miles just to prove his point. Even when he died, he went away peacefully:
If you want to know more about the late Sunil Dutt, do check out THIS lovely article about him. We have all heard how Sanju has a big heart and people love him, but now it is clear that all of this comes from the respect and love that people have for his parents. We can’t really trust any good deed that Sanju did because he was high all the time. It’s no wonder Maanyata said Sanju used to give out money to his friends whenever they asked and he doesn’t even remember how much he gave or to whom. Speaking of Maanyu, hopefully they will show how Maanyata met Sanju in this film because neither of them had spoken about it before. You know, how she had a husband and kid before she dumped them for Sanju. That would be interesting.
Now that we think about it, Sanju is Bollywood’s Sean Penn minus the woman-beater tag. Sean Penn too is hailed as one of the good guys, who does a lot of charity. He was a drug addict too and because of that he used to physically abuse his ex-wife and his ex-girlfriend Madonna. He even beat her one day with a baseball bat and then tied her to a chair to stop her from escaping. That’s how crazy he was. It’s why Charlize Theron made him sign a contract to ensure that he won’t lift a finger on her and her child during the time that they were a couple. The other similarity Sanju and Sean have is how their looks severely deteriorated over the years. They both look like ripe tomatoes in the face area, you know the ones that the knife won’t go through because the skin is worn out and if you are not careful, you might end up cutting yourself!
UPDATE:
Apparently, a lot of true articles regarding Sanjay Dutt’s life have disappeared online. Instead, they want artificial articles like the one below to be online for people to read:
Before we close this up, thank you for reading and sorry again for the delay. Those, who have watched ‘Sanju’, please share your thoughts with others here.
It baffles me how a man like Sunil Dutt & an all heart Nargis had such an offspring as their legacy. Forget legacy, how can their child be such a monster when they were such dignified and good hearted souls?
(This might sound wrong, but Sanjay turned out like one of the Kapoors. It’s more like how Nargis had a child with Raj Kapoor. Sanjay echoes the kind of Rishi, Rk an all. What kind of twisted fate is this?!)
If I’m honest, I half expected Hirani, a friend of Dutt to be able to open up the real Sanju to us, with whom we could empathise. But then I don’t think I can blame Hirani for the “everyone except Dutt is villain” tagline of the film. Bz Sanju himself believes so. From that Bhatt snippet above it’s clear. And Hirani gets fascinated by everything he’s not, I guess.
And is he a changed man today? If so, then this biopic makes more sense. Like he learned from all the mistakes kinda ending instead of blaming his whole life on others. Even his father and mother!
I can’t absolve Hirani completely too, I hope karma serves him right. I thot karma will, with Sanju being his first failure. But it’s a roaring hit, so should we blame him or the audience?
Audience just want a well made film, that’s it. The ifs & buts don’t mafter I guess. So tomorrow we can expect a Sallu biopic too. Sad reality!
Sanju is nothing but a blatant whitewashing of a wayward brat who refuse to grow up even now. I heard one of his audio clip of conversation with shakeel. All that ‘macho’ guy did was mutter ji bhai, ji bhai like a househelp.
Its argued that if not directly involve, he atleast know what was about to happen in Mumbai. Even after his release from jail he was in touch with those shady guys, no remorse.
Its sad how everything is being whitewashed for a generation which won’t ever know the karnamas of this guy. Sanju basically is to bring back two brats, one playing the role, another who was the role.
@admin: Please post a movie review for Sanju…really waiting for it.
Thanks for the request, but don’t know if we will go and see this one. Let’s see. Btw, we don’t really do movie reviews. All this was just done for fun. 😀

I do want to add one additional comment.
In the USA, many states have what is called the ‘Son of Sam’ laws. So any criminal, his friends and family, if they write a book, or make a movie based on his/her crimes, the State can sue them for the profit and gives them to his/her victims. Victims too can sue these people under Civil Tort action. The ‘Son of sam’ laws themselves are being modified currently so that they only apply specifically to the crime and not affect the
Right to Free Speech, but we need such laws in India. Once the likes of Hirani, Sanjay Dutt, and Ranbir lose their profits, this whole whitewashing of criminal activity will stop. Besides the victims of the Bombay Blasts deserve this money.
The real hero of this is Film is former Mumbai DGP Rakesh Maria for making sure Sanjay at least faced up to the consequences of his actions.
Everybody else, from Nargis to Kumar Gaurav and from Bal Thackeray to Raju Hirani were enablers. Having said that Sanjay Dutt alone is responsible for his actions, and not his circumstances or his family/friends. He got away too lightly.
Well written admin. But movie is highly praised by audience and critics. Rk acted well because he is a fantastic actor. But why a filmmaker like hirani make this film? What was he thinking? To me it’s a PR stunt. Glorifying a terrorist to better his image. So who is next? Osama bin Laden or ajmal kasab? I was shocked to read how he treated his dying wife but sadly there is no mention of it as it’s show Sanjay in bad light.
The only time I felt genuinely bad for him was when he says to his Dad U sent me to the boarding school when I was just 6. This is unforgivable if this really happened. No parents should do this.
He was sent off to boarding since he was caught smoking at home.
His Dad had no choice. Nargis and Sunil Dutt were in debt and didn’t want their kids watching the debtors coming home and harassing them (There was a Savvy interview with his elder sister where she mentioned this). Besides, given how Nargis and her maternal family were spoiling him, it was probably for the better.
Watched it today – complete whitewash. No mention of Tina, Richa/Trishala, Rhea or Madhuri. Ranbeer overacts a number of times, Paresh Rawal couldn’t pull off Sunil Dutt and Punjabi usage of his ‘puttar’ cringeworthy. Who really shines is Vicky Kaushal
To be honest how he treated his wife going through cancer sends chills down my spine how can someone be this inhuman since the teaser came out there have been a lot old Sanjay interviews on you tube there is one where he is talking about Richa and he is shrugging off oh she said headaches saying he didn’t have time to visit while infact he had dropped his dying wife like a hot potato and was having fun with his than gf Madhuri. he was so indifferent about her death too it felt like he had no heart.
Wow.. great great article. Long but I enjoyed. Its so true… He definitely doesn’t deserve any kind of love or admiration. the problem is there are 2 kinds of fans – 1. Us.. we read stuff, we analyse and make our own judgements so we dont admire and love blindly. 2. The innocent fan – They are the majority. They go by the reel image. They just think that Hritik is the city’s saviour Krissh!! They are people who dont know the real stuff and they care less. they just love their stars and follow them, infact they even defend the stars. That’s why these people continue to have a huge fan base and supporters. Getting away with so much paap OMG!! I never knew about his wife’s cancer situation.. shame on him. I am confused over Raju Hirani. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?? I feel ridiculous now, I have never felt so bad reading any blind items here.
Also is RK-ALIA and PC-JONAS affair really a strategy? Coz Pc brings him to AMbani parties and RK saying all serious stuff. Also Anushka sharma congratulated PC JONAS relationship on twitter.
RK and Ayan look like rekha and farzana lol
It’s a small world. Nargis’ ex boyfriend’s (Raj Kapoor) grandson plays the role of her son, glorifying all the wrongs he has done in his life. Am sure she would have turned in her grave cause, irony.
I fail to understand just how exactly sleeping with ‘308’ women (beating the real Casanova at his own act) is considered worthy enough to flaunt to the whole public as means of publicity. Is BW really that disconnected with the public? I cringed when I watched that scene in the trailer; I can’t imagine how Anushka’s character actually smiled in surprise when he said that. What is worse is that Ranbir thinks that he falls pale in comparison to Sanjay with sleeping with ‘just’ 10 women. Dude, that is nothing to be proud of if it reflects that you have commitment issues and are just plain selfish.
It speaks volumes about Bollywood when biopics are made on characterless, spoilt actors who have apparently never seeked help on their anger issues (I mean c’mon, Sanjay should have been booked for damaging personal property) and think they have achieved a great deal by ‘sleeping’ with women while Hollywood makes biopics on our luminaries.
And while we are at it, can we please stop calling Sanjay Dutt ‘Baba’? That person does not deserve such a good name nor is he someone to look up to.
A friend of mine had posted this on Facebook a while back: ‘Sanju is an attempt by one spoilt brat of a star-kid actor to salvage( or save, don’t remember) his own and another spoilt brat star-kid actor’s careers’. Couldn’t have agreed more.
Anyone here is waiting for ‘Soorma’? Now that is a biopic I can watch.
I dont understand why are these people glorifying a spoilt brat plus terrorist plus a characterless man who had no control over his impulses ? Is this what we want the younger generation to see ? That its ok to keep arms which are going to be used to kill thousands & later go to jail ? That its ok to sleep with 300 women & use it as a glorification point to later make a shitty documentary on yourself? A man of such loose pajama strings and loose morales is no less than a prostitute who sleeps with hundreds to keep her kitchen burning yet we call those sex workers names, shame them keep them away from our high societies and make BIOPICS on characterless men like him. Wow. Tell me a single good deed he do apart from doing some entertaining movies that we should watch something as shitty as this film ? Such movies shud be banned instead. Padmawati does a johar n everyone comes out on roads. Sanju male prostitute baba does 300 women n has guts to bloody boast about it even when is much married and has young kids.. n we want it to be in a movie ?? Bloody hypocrite indian society man !
Sorry but not sorry, not going to see RK movie or Sanju biopic, whatever it is…. I would rather buy Huda beauty lippie for myelf instead of wasting my money on his Sh.itty movie.
BW has nothing in original, make Biopic or take Punjabi songs and fit them with zero grade stars like Varun and Shradha… BW you suck now.
Just wanted to say kudos to the admins for putting in so much effort into writing such detailed, balanced posts. Love your website. Other sites like Pinkvilla is either heavily biased towards or against Bollywood actors. They don’t even put effort into considering facts or coming up with logical assumptions. Great job!

God only knows how much masand is been paid to lick a$& in this article 🤦
Masand considering he’s also into aloo paratha raymond noodle PR would suggest a lot. Lol.
Admin, thanks for this post! It’s making me angry seeing the glorification of basically a spoilt brat. I don’t get why people keep using the justification of “heart of gold” for people like him and Salman who are basically murderers.
All this attention to Sanjay when a poor uneducated muslim woman has suffered so much more https://www.google.co.in/amp/s/www.scoopwhoop.com/amp/Zaibunissa-Kazis-Plight-Shows-Why-Only-Rich-Men-Like-Sanjay-Dutt-Walk-Free-Early/
I just read the article. I can’t imagine a more apt example of hypocrisy than what the article talks about. Really saddening 🙁
After years of stuck in a bad relationship nagirs truly found a great man to fall in love with and marry in Sunil dutt. In old interviews of sunil he comes across as a kind man and he truly loved nargis is obvious in how he talks about her. Maybe it was for better that nargis passed away before seeing Sanjay life after going into bw she had gone through enough with Raj Kapoor.
Nargis-sunil now that’s a love story ppl would love to see .
@admin brilliant one.👍
Not watching this movie since I already read the biography. I am going for Incredibles 2 instead.
Off topic: at akash and shloka engagement, Raymond arrived with Ayan. They do look comfortable and gay(meaning happy here) around each other. There was a chemistry if you look at them carefully like Raymond was all over ayan and Ayan was acting like he is his supporting force of life. They really gel so well. If they are really just friends, that’s really great and if they are partnering even that too looks good. Peace.

This movie glorifies all the wrongs that Sanjay dutt did and passes them off as either something to be proud of (the amount and variety of drugs he took and the number of women he slept with) or something that he did because of the circumstances (terrorism) and not because he is a spoilt, entitled, cheap characterless weirdo.
And I can;t help but feel RK looks like a caricature throughout. He doesn’t show any emotion, just looks like someone going through the motions. Maybe he was on drugs throughout the shooting cause he thought by being drugged he can perform more effectively like Sanjay Dutt lol.
Seing the review from yesterday screening make me think they did a great job showing him as a victim. People already feel sad for him and he is now labelled as a “survivor” sort of.
See this is my problem with biopic. They are barely accurate just a way of cleaning someone image. The way RK talk about him also will make you roll your eyes.
Apparently RK did a great job as usual. Movie also going to be bigger than Padmavati it seems. We will see.
