Trailer: Gangubai Kathiawadi – Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgan, Vijay Raaz & Jim Sarbh

Since the teaser of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ was shared here, it’s time to share the trailer.

    So here goes:

    Trailer: Gangubai Kathiawadi

As you can see, this is a full on drama film…one that will require its audience to pay attention all throughout the film. It’s heavy so is the real Gangubai’s story! There’s no over-drama or melodrama as it so happens with an SLB film but maybe that’s because Ranveer is not in it!

Still, the trailer could have been as interesting and enticing as the teaser was! Nevertheless, it is a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film so it won’t be half-baked.

Alia might have a baby face but she did deliver on the dialogues and emotions. Some lines that she delivered are just heartbreaking, especially the “losing our dignity every night” line”. She nailed it!

Gangubai was a young girl when eloped from her home and then sold to prostitution. It will be interesting to see how the film portrays Alia as it progresses. They could have hired Pooja Bhatt to carry out the older part but then that’s just a dream casting which will not happen anytime soon.

Ajay Devgan is also in this film which makes it the 2nd film this year that features him and Alia if ‘RRR’ really does release in 2022. He plays the rakhi brother of Gangubai, which is where the film will get interesting as he stands up for her in Kamathipura. Ajay is joining hands with SLB after a really long time so it’s bound to be for a special role no matter how small it is.

Vijay Raaz is in it too, as you can see in the trailer, playing a different character. Jim Sarbh is also in it. Huma Qureshi and Emraan Hashmi have cameos in the film.

‘Gagubai Kathiawadi’ is a big release for Alia Bhatt. Since the release will be in theatres, the box office results will determine everything for Aloo: her standing in the industry and her power at the box office. Of course, not to mention the pride that KebabJo will feel!

A good drama film without exaggerations and with all the right notes is a delight to watch. Gangubai’s story is extraordinary so not missing this one.

‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ was selected for screening at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival and will be released in cinemas on February 25.

So, let’s go for a vote.

In the meantime, here’s Aloo’s sherbet doing the Gangubai pose when asked about the film:
