Trailer: Mimi – Kriti Sanon, Pankaj Tripathi, Sai Tamhankar, Supriya Pathak & Manoj Pahwa

‘Mimi’, the film starring Kriti Sanon, Pankaj Tripathi and Sai Tamhankar, is finally ready for release! Since it’s still early for a theatre release, the makers decided to sell the rights to Netflix. The film has been making noise since Kriti signed on to play the main lead, a pregnant girl, in the film. Apparently, she made some gain-weight comments (Kriti gained 15 kgs for the role) that pissed off some people, but then things were fine and it was forgotten.

It’s not preachy or serious. It’s not like you are going to watch a film on surrogacy and it’s going to be a documentary film. It’s a very entertaining film, filled with humor, and a lot of ups and downs. There’s a beautiful graph of the woman I am playing, Mimi, where she wants to be an actress. – Kriti Sanon on ‘Mimi’

These days, every film is being sent to a streaming platform. Every film that has been waiting a long time for things to settle down in India is being sold to an OTT platform since the situation is not getting any better and makers have realized OTT is the best option right now. Remember when established actors (you-know-who) found it degrading when their films released on a streaming platform instead of releasing in theatres? Times surely have changed!

Check out the trailer of Mimi:

Kind of wished they didn’t show it all in the film!

Imagine how surprising it would have been had they not reveal that the baby is unwanted in the trailer? They have done this a habit of showing everything so all you get while watching the film is finding out how they got from A to Z, the journey travelled. Maybe they have another surprise in the film like the white couple wanting the baby in the end but Kriti doesn’t want to give them the baby! Sounds like ‘Chori Chori Chupke Chupke’!

Kriti looks great! And she’s basically the same from ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ and all that. Pankaj Tripathi is Pankaj Tripathi in all of his latest film. It’s like Irrfan was Irrfan in most of his last films. Ironically, Pankaj played her dad in BKB and now in this one, he’s pretending to be her Muslim husband, who prays 10 times a day!

‘Mimi’ is directed by the same director, who gave Kriti ‘Luka Chuppi’, Laxman Utekar. You might remember it as the film that made news for being a Karthik Aryan film after it made over 100 crore. It was heavily reported in blinds and news alike that Kriti was pissed Karthik took all the credit for the film’s success.

‘Mimi’ only has Kriti as the lead, since Pankaj Tripathi is not really a threat to the young gen of actors, so the film rests solely on Kriti’s shoulders. The film does have a steady star cast of actors who CAN act like Supriya Pathak and Manoj Pahwa. Please go and watch ‘Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi’, if you haven’t already. We recently watched it and it’s much better than ‘Pagglait’, which not surprisingly was accused of plagiarism by the makers of ‘Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi’. It did seem like they lifted the same idea and turned it into a different premise hoping no one would notice!

‘Mimi’ is a remake of ‘Mala Aai Vhhaychy!’, a National award-winning Marathi film released in 2011. The film is based on a true surrogacy story and is said to be the first film on surrogacy in the world. It was the selected film by then-President Pratibha Patil to show to President Obama during their visit.

It also appears to be a bit similar to a Telugu film titled ‘Welcome Obama’.

This is Kriti and the film’s producer Dinesh Vijan fourth collaboration. Kriti is a favorite of Dinesh since she was chosen as the female lead in his directorial debut ‘Raabta’ co-starring the late Sushant Singh Rajput.

‘Mimi’ will be released on July 30 on Netflix and Jio Cinemas.

    1. I am rooting for Kriti but why would I watch it after that trailer?? I also wish she branches out of this small town roles. I only remember her from Lukka chuppi and Bareilly. Most films have the same setup and same kind of roles. Even this seems the same. Her being pregnant is not really bringing any freshness to her character 😐😐
